What is wrong with that?04-cheers
Ice cold firebrewed.
Congrats Falcons.
At first when I heard this new arena was going to be only 5,000 seats my intial reacation was 03-puke

The more I think about it, the more I think its actually not a bad move for BGSU.

-BG is not averaging many fans in basketball right now anyways.

-If they do have a really good team at BG again a small arena will drive up ticket demand.

-The announcement will help Orr in recruiting. The coach has a four year plan and the arena will be done in four years. BG could be peaking going into the new arena.
This is great news for BG. This arena will be for bball and vball, athletically speaking.

The webmaster of azz.com was part of the feedback process for the arena. He looped in a few of his members to assist. Our feedback was fairly consistent:

*Keep it intimate with the feel of Anderson. This included students on the floor with reasonable capacity. Having an 8,000 person capacity would create a cavern with very little home court advantage.

*Keep hockey out of it. A combo facility would not be a good idea for a host of reasons. I was pretty vocal about this. Combo facilities have softer, more hated ice, transition costs, the history behind the old ice arena.

*Parking was mentioned several times although it didn't hit my list. The arena is going to be southeast of DLP Field. Parking will no longer be an issue.

Along with this convo center, the ice arena is getting a couple mil for upgrades and repairs.

Greg Christopher has been an excellent hire for BGSU. He had goals and he has thus far followed through.
Congrats on the HUGE donation and new facility. But I noticed it won't be started for another 2 years and not ready for another 4, why the delay?
The artists rendering looks amazingly like the current Anderson Arena except that it has seats on the north end and has an arched roof.
Very sweet! I'm hoping NIU gets a donation like that so we can get that IPF built sooner rather than later.

+1. What great news....BG has been at the bottom of the MAC with budgets and facilites for too long. GC has kicked BGSU in the azz and is getting things done. 04-rock

Yeah. The Michael Turner IPF. Come on Bears, pull the trigger.

I imagine it has to do with both planning and fund allocation. SEBO was just completed. A new performing arts center is beginning its construction.

There is a great deal going on at this point with more on the way. BG is going to see a time of aggressive construction projects not seen for several decades.
Congrats.

SEBO, hockey and hoops is a lot for such a relatively short period of time.
Sebo Center paid dividends already.

All of 2008 football recruits pointed out that the Sebo Center played an important part in their decision to play at BGSU.

I am sure the new convo center will be a key issue in the basketball and volleyball recruiting for years to come.

This is great for the university!!

Careful there...your Falcon Envy's showing!
Here is a little extra for those who didn't read the article:

"said Mr. Stroh, co-chairman of the BGSU Building Dreams Centennial Campaign.

"I hope what we are doing shows our commitment and interest in the students of Bowling Green State University."

The campaign, which sought to raise $120 million by the end of 2008, surpassed its goal a year ahead of schedule.'

*************

BG has been raising donations as part of a big campaign and done very, very well. 04-bow

I believe CMU had a big campaign and was shooting for 50M.

Getting over 100M for a MAC school is excellent.

One of the most important design features, as I understand it, is that the Basketball coach's office will have an unobstructed view of the parking lot. 03-wink
