Wild, pre-spring training predictions, for fun only:

2008 UAB Schedule

Aug. 30 - at Tennessee (loss, but closer than expected- we intercept their new QB three times - I've got 50 yard line seats for the game...)

Sept. 6 - at Florida Atlantic (hard to predict because they are a solid team -but it's a last second surprise win for us with Waters kicking a 52 yarder as time expires)

Sept. 13 - ALABAMA STATE (win, not so exciting game)

Sept. 27 - at South Carolina (not close - loss - solid beating)

Oct. 2 - MEMPHIS (another last second win for us on a long 4th quarter TD run by Johns (something we've not seen in 3 years))

Oct. 11 - at Houston (close loss)

Oct. 18 - MARSHALL (solid win - should have had them this year)

Oct. 25 - at Southern Miss (perennial loss until UAB shows me something different)

Nov. 8 - TULSA (solid win by 10 pts - in a shocker)

Nov. 15 - at Tulane (win, by 3)

Nov. 22 - EAST CAROLINA (solid loss by 14, Top 2 team in league)

Nov. 29 - at UCF (close road loss by 3- big disapointment for bowl hopes)

Record 6 - 6 in 2008 (but no bowl game), en-route to a bowl game (and maybe a conference championship) in 2009.

Why such a stupid prediction?

Because we should be better in every phase of the game this year, and we've had a year in the system and this coaching staff has a year under their belt together - and because 3 or 4 of the monster backs in C-USA are done....and because we only have 2 games against BCS teams, instead of 3 and neither UT nor USC are going to be having peak seasons (although UT will be very good).

We potentially upgrade at RB, QB, OL, DL, LB, Safety (Assily)
We mature some solid players at WR, TE
Remain top tier on special teams
Biggest question marks: cornerbacks, RBs, DL
Whew pass the bong man............
