Central Michigan finished #2 in the final poll in college wrestling. No Chippewa team has ever been ranked higher in Division 1 athletics. Next week Central looks to make it seven MAC tourney championships in a row. Two weeks later is the big enchilada, the NCAA national championships in Saint Louis.

Kent State is also flexing its muscles in wrestling, finishing at #21 with only one graduating starter.

Several other MAC-affiliated teams of national note this year:

Akron finished #23 in mens soccer.
Ohio finished #15 in womens field hockey.
Miami is #5 in mens ice hockey.
Ball State is #14 in mens volleyball.
Kent State is #22 in womens gymnastics.

Keep it going!!!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I think the MAC has a squad ranked in the obscure sport of mens hoops.

Admire all of the rankings for yourself from USA Today's web link.
Fire Up Chips! Congratulations.
MAC has improved across the board in many sports. The fustration of football and basketball teams struggling to keep up with other top mid major conferences gets overlooked.
Congrats! That is a nice honor. It's a shame that high national ranking like their wrestling and Miami's hockey fly under the radar.
Kent State Women's Golf is currently ranked #14.
Kent State is ranked in three, errr, FOUR sports? Do the Buckeyes know about this????
Better yet, do the Buckeye fans who are Kent State students even know about this?

Miami just won their annual Synchronized skating collegiate National championship. We actually send our #2 team to this competition, as our #1 team competes internationally and trys to win the World championship. This is a really under the radar sport.
You're right.
I just checked my radar, and I couldn't find it.
Women's golf was coming in strong, though!
Hey, wasn't the Dance team #2, as well? I think I remember that from my trip to Millett this year.

In addition, I'm sure there are several ranked individuals in a sport for their MAC school. (Betcha CMU as at least a half-dozen on their wrestling squad). :ncaabbs:

My Buckeye loving KSU grad co-worked did not even know that his b-ball team was in the Top 25 until I told him.

How many teams even exist in this?

Too many MAC students and alumni suffer from Big Tendinitis. This is a very painful and debilitating disease. Unfortunately too little research is being done to vanquish this devastating malady.
Oops, I also forgot Akron's #1 Mascot, ZIPPY!!
#1 in Summit County maybe.
Summit County represent!

Like our hockey team, the dance team has dropped to #5.
