Don't hang your heads too much St Mary, at least you guys can go to a beach.

Going to be pretty cold at a Bay area beach today.

Reno, did you go to the game?
I did watch some of this game, but unfortunately I fell asleep before the finish. However, when I saw the results this morning I got excited! Congrats Kent on the HUGE win over St. Mary's. I hope that'll put you guys into the Tournament for sure.

Ten miles away from my house you bet I was there. The result was far more satisfying than the last KSU/St. Mary's game I saw during the holiday tourney. I was like a leper in the crowd however. I had to get tickets locally on Craigs list because of the sell out. It was a sea of Red in that tiny gym, but it was a typical Bay Area wine and cheese crowd. (not like a Raider game). The opening minutes were great then it got more difficult when we went cold in the middle of the game. The funny thing was that everyone there thought they would somehow pull it out until the last minute. Then they all just left without hardly a word to me.

This shot was in reaction to that unreal basket by Fisher late in the game.

...from the 8:45 mark of the 1st half [up 24-17] until the 16:06 mark of the 2nd half, we scored just two buckets -- Fisher both times, and were outscored 17-4 during that run -- yet, this team stayed in the game [mentally] the entire time.

This may have been the guttest win I've witnessed out of KSU team in this decade. They did what JC has preached [Trust the System] and it paid off. And though he has been flat at best most of this season, Sullinger dug in and got his work done inside, both offensively and defensively.

This was easily the best regular-season win in a storied run the past 10+ years...

Wow - I made it through the first half of the broadcast in Ohio and couldn't stay awake. I just finished watching the second half and I saw one fan who was cheering Kent buckets from that end zone. But I couldn't pick out any more Kent fans in that red and blue crowd. Then, during the last minute of the game, I could hear, "We Are...Kent State." AWESOME! Were you responsible, Reno? If so, thank you! 04-rock
That was the players on the bench with that cheer, and kudos to them for staying pumped up despite not getting the PT they expected or wanted.

Exactly was I am thinking, PH. Remember a few weeks ago when we heard rumblings of discontent? All these kids want to WIN. Trust the System? Don't worry about it after last night.
Nice to see the first guy to congratulate "Big Shot" was the teammate whose minutes he took- Jordan Mincy.

Among the best information about this win is that the only KSU fans in the gym- other than Reno- were on the bench in the end chanting "our" chant. Sweet.

Reno, I am so happy that you got to experience this game live. Good for you. treasure it.

Absolutely - and look at McKee in the picture above. He could very well be pouting about minutes, too. I'm glad to see these kids just want to win. Lets hope this one was just the beginning.... 04-bow
garcia looked pretty queasy after that sick fisher layup. : )
As someone who, ages ago, had various degrees of playing time, ranging from starting all the way to DNP-CD, I can attest it is a lot harder to be discontent on the bench when a team is clicking and winning, than when a team is struggling.
Wow...just wow.

Just watched channel 19 news sports (yeah, I know, 19 is run by circus clowns) to see what they had to say about Kent since that game ended this morning, and they said....nothing. Did not mention it. Talked about Ohio State losing at home though.

Channel 3 did briefly cover it and showed a couple of highlights.

I know we just talked about this in an earlier thread, but I was really surprised a local station would not even cover a local school beating a top 20 team.

I would like to ask Jeff Phelps about it, seeing he is a KSU alum. He did talk about kent a lot when he was a sports anchor.
HAHA the Mckee picture is on espn.coms Around the Rim headline. What a great pic.

Kyle Whelliston talks about the Kent State win.
Around the Rim

Biggest eye-opener: Kent State 65, Saint Mary's 57. Not the coffee you needed to stay up for the game, the result itself. Kent's MAC-truck defense rolled over the Saint Mary's perimeter and transition games. If there was a stat that rewarded players defensively for holding an opponent under their average, Jordan Mincy would earn a solid 10 for frustrating SMC star Patty Mills into a five-point performance on 2-for-11 shooting. The Golden Flashes earned their first-ever regular-season win against a ranked opponent and are now 23-5 overall and 11-2 in the MAC. Kent, if it falls short in the league tourney, is on track to earn the league's first at-large bid since 1999.

Al Fisher, Kent State (28 points vs. St. Mary's)

Great Weeks
Kent State: The Golden Flashes picked up the win of BracketBusters by beating St. Mary's on the road. If Kent State can win the MAC regular season outright and get to the title game and lose, it might just get an at-large bid for a conference desperate for a second bid.

That bench image sure is making the rounds. It's part of the weekend college hoops photo gallery on USA Today's site. The image is eighth in the gallery.
