After attending your first class tomorrow, please post what happened. Based on all the articles in the Chicago Newspapers, I would imagine the first part of class, if not all will be spent talking about what happened. NIU sounds prepared but I would love to hear the persectives of the students.

Just remember, "Forward, Together Forward."
My first class at 8am just so happens to be psychopathology - the study of mental illness and disease. Should be an interesting day to say the least. My 2nd class at 9am is my only class in a giant lecture hall. Good idea Klake.
My first class is also at 8AM and it happens to be biochem, can't say it's going to be as interesting..
my first class is one that would have been with dan... :(... accountancy...
dont have class till 6, and its kinda a psyc class that has to do with elementary thru high school kids so it should be interesting
Just got back from my two morning classes. Counselors will seated in both classes - one for the smaller class of about 25 students and two in the big lecture class that had about 100 students. One of the counselors came from Augustana.

Both classes were pretty much the same. The professors talked about some things and then gave students a chance to talk about whatever was on their minds. They then asked the class how we wanted today and the rest of the week to go. It was pretty much general consensus that we wanted to start lecture again and get back into the swing of things.

Lots of Huskie attire worn today.

It was a pretty somber and somewhat eerie mood in the classes but I think students were relieved to be heading back to "normalcy."

The psychology staff at the Pysch building had a table set up with donuts, muffins, breakfast bars, etc. And a lady was handing out free cookies in the HSC. All nice reminders that the community cares.
Has security been stepped up?
Someone said this morning that there would be counselors in EVERY class today and tomorrow.

I didn't see any extra police but there were some unarmed, hired security guards (also commonly referred to as rent-a-cops by some) stationed at both buildings that I was in (psych and wirtz).
Sure hope the state and fed gov ponies up for the costs related to coping with the killings as well as the aftermath including today.

All the extra hours on duty by Grady and NIU police alone may have been $ignificant.

I sure hope Peters takes care of himself. He looks exhausted but simply keeps on going .
He is walking the campus today available to meet with students.
He continues to repeat thjat it's the students' strength and community response which keeps him going.
It's not so easy when you are his age.

I believe Blago declaring a "state of emergency" will cover the costs. I could be wrong though.
I received an email about alums greeting students at the HSC this morning. How did that go? Was there a large turnout?

I heard one of the old football teams was at the HSC to greet students. I think it was the team that went to the California Bowl in 1983. That's what I was told from one of the FCNS professors in WZ. One of her colleagues is married to one of the football players.
I had class 2 classes in Barsema this morning and there are tons of alumni everywhere in the atrium and all throughout the entire building. They're also handing out t-shirts at the entrance to the building that say "Today We Are All Huskies" and "Forward, Together Forward" with a picture of a huskie on the front and a President Peters quote on the back. Also there were counselers in both my classes and alumni who sat in as well.

Very friendly and heartfelt morning, I applaud the business school for all they did today and even had breakfast and lunch for the students...very classy and really created an atmosphere that i have really begun to see on campus since the incident of togetherness.

We will get past this...Forward, Together Forward

Yes, Barsema was awesome. I got there and was welcomed like 20 times into the building. Free donuts, pizza, hot chocolate, chocolates on table, counselors and alumni EVERYWHERE.. It was very welcoming. Everyone was trying to talk to me, I may go back, it was quite comforting lol...
Awesome
i had class for a good 15 minutes today...counselors talked..prof talked about the rest of the semester then sent us home....
The class was at 2 and originally was in Cole but got moved to the Art building. In that lecture hall a cop showed up in the back of the room right when class was beginning.
There are lots of random police officers that I do not recognize walking around campus as pedestrians.. I believe that there is a lot of those that were normally not around.

Sorry this is a little confusing. Are they in uniform or walking around in plain clothes?
