It's just terrible. Worst yet, is that this sort of thing is starting to become common.

Having visited NIU, it's hard to imagine something like that happening there...such a quiet town. Some people in this world are just awful.

Prayers for DeKalb and Northern Illinois University.

This is awful. If you are an NIU student or staffer and are okay, someone is worried if they have not heard from you. Call and let them know you are safe so they can sleep tonight.

I can't believe this isn't on any news channel

If gunman is only fatality, that will be a relief but I suspect that the injuries many of these people suffered will have a lifelong impact...physically and psychologically.

That is the latest from the NIU board as well. Maybe only the shooter killed. Apparently the police were there in about 2 minutes. That is huge in keeping the victims as low as possible. It was also noted that the shooter may not be an NIU student(though apparently college age).

CNN front page, lead story, says 18 wounded, 4 critically, shooter a suicide. I pray he's the only one.

My eldest son wondered out loud why in the hell these ******** can't just do themselves and be done with it.

Like many on this board, I am stunned and shocked. Terrible news from DeKalb today. Thoughts and prayers to all affected.

Watching local news here in Chicago.

They have interviewed several students both in and out of the particular lecture hall where the shootings took place.

One girl, last name is Navarro, has been identified, as a shooting victim. They interviewed her brother who rushed to NIU, was told she may be at the local "regional" hospital but was not. She had been sent to Rockford, Illinois about an hour north of NIU.

The fact she went to Rockford with several good hospitals indicates she may be more serious.

If you pray, please pray for her. To date, in monitoring the news here, her name is the only one out there, and by chance through the interview with her brother.

Of course, all the victims and their families need our prayers.
