To start things off, I'm a current student at UC who has lived and breathed UC basketball since I can remember. As a kid I could not wait to go to uc because I would finally get to be in the student section at the shoe. Junior year in high school, huggs gets canned and I was livid. I couldn't see a reason for what was done, especially with the supposed recruits he had coming in if he was provided an extension (OJ, Bill, etc. per the letter fromhuggs lawer to UC) What was worse was my first years at UC after waiting and waiting to go there would be less than impressive on the court. I should be amped up for a final four run right now....but i digress. I have heard many rumors about why huggins got fired but don't know what to believe. I am under the understanding that the DUI was not the real reason for his departure but it provided an easy reason Z and the BOT could give for his non renewal. I don't consider myself an insider or anything like that, just a person who reads thsi board and others about 50x a day and bull***** with people about the cats at any chance I get. I don't know if it matters to anyone and I don't mean to light a fire about huggs but it seems like alot has not been talked about huggs real reason for being fired. I don't know if the moderators don't allow talking about it because it is all hearsay but I would be interested to see what people have heard and why they really believe huggs got the oust. If what I have consistently heard is true, I can see why he was doen the way he was......REGARDLESS UC IS ON ITS WAY BACK FASTER THAN EXPECTED AND LETS BEAT MARQUETTE. GO MICK!!!
P.S. lets sell out the shoe, just watched the marquette game from '02 and damn it would be nice to have that place rockin like it used too
I was beating around the bush a little, but thought someone may have heard things.....I have heard from many people that huggs was getting with Jeff Wyler's wife and that was mostly the basis for his departure. Zimph comes in and along with the DUI and a thug image, a BOT is in her ear about how huggs has been with his wife. I am not saying its true but I have heard it from several places, all of which have no connection to each other. has anyone heard anything of the like or is it coincidence that I have heard all of this
i reckon every rumor about huggs was posted here directly or referenced here indirectly.
don't recall his tenure in hollywood.

More curious than anything, huggs is gone, and regardless of what happened with his firing, I have tremendous respect for huggs as a coach and what he did for tons of kids who went through here. Just would like as close to a definitive answer to the question I can get. I know a ton of people hate Jeff Wyler, is it bc of this or am I overseeing something very obvious. I don't claim toknow much, but wouldnt mind hearing from those who do.........

only way to get an answer there is to check with jeff, his wife, or huggs. and that should be pretty obvious.

This whole affair is much like a messy divorce. Two parties that are loved divorce (Huggs and the University), many kids stay with their University but still love Huggs, a very few love Huggs and seemingly hate their University and also a few love their University yet hate Huggs.
I think most of us know who fits into what category; the amusement from me are those who profess they have nothing against the other party yet villify them at every opportunity be it the University or the former Coach.
As for me I feel like this last victory excorcised a demon.
