I rant on this from time to time in hopes that someone in the proper rank with the Athletics/School will come to their senses and get more NIU logo stuff out in the market.

So today I was at Jo Anne Fabrics in Geneva today ( don't ask me why ) and I saw SOUTHERN ILLINOIS logo fabric! Why the hell not NIU?

I think there's only a handful of acceptable reasons why a self-respecting, upstanding, gentleman like yourself would be spotted at such an establishment.

1.) The lady friend made you.

OK, make that one acceptable reason.
But yes, I do also wonder why we have suck a lack of merchandising available. Although, I did find 7 NIU related ringtones to download to my new phone.

Well my question is..WHAT in the world were you doing at Jo Anne Fabrics?? In regards to your post, I've thought the same thing. I think we've talked about this before on this board. I do not understand it. I've gone into stores and they'll have a bunch of apparel for U.Illinois (of course), SIU, DePaul, and a lot of the Big 10 schools and other misc. schools such as Texas, Florida, USC, etc., yet NOTHING for NIU...it really pisses me off.
Hey, I recently visited Jo Ann Fabrics when I was in the states. I was looking for letter stencils! Back off yous!
There is plenty of good Huskie stuff available for the male type man. It is just that those of you who desire high fashion for your feminine side can't find something to match your bikini underwear and socks. 03-rotfl Just kidding.

I still want to know where the t-shirts with the creative sayings using Coach Kill's last name are. I was expecting those shortly after the hiring, apparently I was off base.
There are many stores in DeKalb that have U of I and other university stuff, but not NIU. The simple answer is that either we do not have a marketing department, or we have no desire to make money. There is better stuff on the internet for schools such as Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State than for NIU. This is sad, indeed.
I was in the Meijer in Oswego yesterday and about fell over when I saw 6 or 7 different styles of NIU t-shirts for sale. I bought three for the kids. But to your original post, yes it is very aggravating that you cannot find NIU gear in stores like Dick's, Sports Authority, Kohl's, Target, etc....

When you look at programs like Ohio State, that just rake in the revenue, it's not all from ticket sales. I don't know the break down of their figures, but I have to think merchandising makes up a significant portion of the athletic department's revenue stream. It's an area we're really lacking in, that's for sure.
In addition to revenue, it's basically free advertising.
I was at the Finish Line in Springhill Mall (West Dundee) and they had black long sleeve underarmour NIU shirts. Pretty nice - I think $24.99. My son wanted one but they didn't have them in kids sizes. I also saw a nice miniature NIU football helmet at the sports memorablia store there.
And get rid of Illini Tire on Lincoln Hwy and Annie Glidden

Pay all their advertising and costs to change to Huskie Tire....
I was at the Kohl's in Crystal Lake the week after Christmas and they had 2 NIU hats amongst the Chicago pro teams, Illinois, and ND hats. I was very surprised.

But, Illini Tire has a tradition that goes way back. Maybe we can change the name to Huskie Tire and Illini Retreads.
