Per the Daily Chronicle, Yelder and Gaters will not return to basketball team.

Yelder-Gaters
That opens up two new scholarships.
Not a surprise, I wish them the best of luck in the future. I think Jerwin Calloway, who chicago hoops and mid state hoops said we signed a little while back, might be taking Yelder's spot, JMO though. Keep in mind too that GCD says Pancratz won't be back next year either, he's just going to graduate and leave, so that's another spot.
Patton is not letting grass grow under his feet. He does not have a 5 year plan. I think he is looking to contend next season and he is making sure he wants only those who want to be there.

Yeah that's obvious, and I like it. Can you say for sure Pancratz won't be back, gcd?
Now we know why some of the bigger schools wanted nothing to do with Yelder despite his talent.
I heard Pancratz is not on schlorship and probably done

These days, it's not really reasonable to expect to be able to wait 5 years to build a contender. Whether that's fair or not is up for debate.

But in hoops, it only takes one or two really good recruits and a few role players to make some noise.
From what I hear Pancratz is still on scholarship and plans to play next year. His shoulder rehab is going well.
I was told by a former coach that pancratz deal was he can have his scholarship this year but next year he would have to pay his way if he wants to be on the team. Also we signed 5 guys we only have 5 to give out if you count pancratz.

Also he needs to give one of the scholarships to Jarvis Nichols he played well enough to get one.
If this is true about Pancratz not having a scholarship next year, won't it be true that Pancratz will have graduated by then anyway? If so, can't he just take a 1 credit hour course and be eligible to play?

I'm not sure how the rules work but if this is the case, it comes down to whether or not he would rather have one more year in college or if he'd rather get started on his career.

I personally hope he plays next year.. this team will need a leader.
From the Chronicle article:

NIU connection

Ball State's coaching staff had a distinct Northern Illinois connection. Head coach Billy Taylor's father, Dennis, attended NIU and still holds the school record in the triple jump.

Ball State assistant coach Jim Molinari was Northern Illinois' head coach from 1989-91.

I wonder if Molinari will ever get the chance to be a headcoach again. I wonder where his career would be now if he didn't jumpship immediatley after having some success here. I think it backfired on him.

We now have six scholarships available to give out for 2008. Ryan Paradise, Cody Yelder, and Darrius Gators are no longer on the team. Egan Grafel, Shaun Logan, and Ben Rand will graduate.

We've signed five 2008 players:

Mike DiNunno (Von Steuben)
Dominique Johnson (SW Tennessee CC)
Tyler Storm (Geneseo)
Bryan Hall (Whitney Young)
Jerwin Calloway (Mineral Area College)

So we have one more scholarship available to give out.
you can't give yelder and gaters scholarships out yet because they are underclassmen and they are still going to school at NIU they need thier release from NIU and that won't happen till after school.
zao............YES, NIU can "give out" or commit the scholarships of yelder and gaters even if they are still attending school THIS YEAR.........the scholarships in question are for the 2008-2009 academic year by which time yelder and gaters will no longer be on scholarship.......
