It is an absolutely awful thing.

I just learned that Kent State has already removed the banner with Eric Thomas' No. 40 from the M.A.C. Center rafters, which I believe is a very good decision.
I'm just in shock. I'm sure many in the KSU family feel the same. I can't even imagine how his former teammates must feel. Very sad story for everyone involved.
Met Eric on many occasions after his playing days were over, just doesnt sound like the person whom I met. I am in complete shock over this. I'm sure there is more to the story, but the circumstances are deplorable.

Sad, but yes, a good decision. I am a bit sick over this today. I don't understand...
Really a shock to the KSU community, this from a guy that you never heard anything negative about during his whole career. I also do agree with taking #40 down from the rafters, but lets just hope this does not affect the boys performance tonight.
Unbelieveable. ET was seen as such a success story who made a lot from a little. He was beloved by his team mates and most who knew him.

The act that happened is a horrible thing that should result in appropriate consequences for ET or anyone else who commits them. Still, remember how the first reports about Cribb's were so overblown? ET's still innocent until it's proven otherwise.
There is, of course, a presumption of innocence. I'm surprised his number would be taken down already. But if the story is essentially true, even with any mitigating circumstances, it would cast a pall over that 2002 team. Besides the success on the court, that team was also known for the quality of the true student-athletes.
What exactly happened? I can't get access to the article. Can someone post the text of it or explain what ET did that was so deplorable?

He, allegedly, kicked in the door of a couple's apartment, punched a guy in the face (ended up with several broken bones), then raped a woman living with him. The article didn't provide a motive for the attack, so I have no clue why he woudl do this. My wife took a class with him and said that he was a goof off for the most part, but I just don't see this in his character.
Before i state this i want to say im not defending any of the actions and even if only 1/3 of its true its still a bad situation and a black eye for Kent.

but the story leaves some questions. the article doesnt mention that the man was unconscious so where was he or what was he doing when the alleged rape occured?

Who's to say the girl was an ex or someone he wanted to get involved in. He's go over and barges into the house and starts a fight with the man. Now i'll admit those are both crimes and things that shouldnt't occur. But the alleged rape is what takes this story over the top.

Before everyone passes judgment just remember the Duke Lacrosse situation.
A rapist on the prowl likely isn't going to bust a door down, fight a male and then rape the female. There was a recent case like this where I live, the man and girl were having a relationship and the girl's old man caught them, she said she was raped to save face and the guy was a front page news rapist until the truth came out. Is it possible he was with this girl and her old man caught them a physical altceration ensued after they had at that time consentual sex and no rape ever occurred?
Man, that sucks. I was a student manager for the basketball team ET's senior year. Yes, it's true he was one goofy character. But he was also great on the court. That is a terrible thing to hear, even if it is alleged at the moment.
Can someone please cut and paste the article? I am not going to subscribe to that junk paper. So, it is safe to assume he won't be making an apperance at the annual alumni basketball game this season. I guess there going to have to bring out more managers to play because they have no relationship with their alumni. Great job Kent State.[/u]
It's interesting he was described as goofy and lazy. Weren't he and Mitchell prop 48's who became good students and graduated in 4 years so they could regain a year of eligibility. Might say something about the curriculum he took. He also went to grad school and was in teaching right! Hopefully rape was not involved and it was nothing more than a fight (although I believe he is married so it still isn't the greatest thing one can do).
Yes, Burden, both were.[/u]
I can't get to this story. Can someone paste it on here?
ET was married, is now divorced.

The actions are awful. Still, more information coming. Stay tuned before you point any fingers on this one.
Reports are ET's number removed "pending the outcome" of his case. Maybe that's a good idea for all who post.
Link to an article from the Stater ... they report that the girl was his ex-wife? There has got to be more to the story beyond the terrible allegations.
