What do you think the major headlines will say about the WAC in '07?
jediwarrior Wrote:What do you think the major headlines will say about the WAC in '07?

Headline #1. Idaho football stuns Boise State in Boise 52 /17.

Headline #2.
Boise State Coach Chris Petersen leaves for a BCS school, Boise fans are in an uproar.

I went for the longshots, it should at least be good for an insult or two from BSU fans. ;-)

Leonardo - Check back at the end of the season to see which ones came true. I don't think these are pipe-dreams.

1. ESPNU - The WAC played 5 football games on ESPNU in its inaugural year in 2005.

2. ESPN's Big Monday - The WAC split time with the MWC on Big Monday in 2005.

3. WAC TV - I believe Steve Macy mentioned doing this during a break at the WAC basketball tourney.

4. Heisman voting - Colt Brennan finished 6th in 2006. Ian Johnson finished 8th. Both finishing in the top 6 isn't totally out of the realm of possibility.

5. FSN - Prior to Hawaii signing its "local" TV contract, Hawaii was playing on FSW2 quite a bid. If Hawaii could do it, there's "no" reason why the WAC can't offer up its 8 other teams for "Regional" coverage.

6. Bowl Tie-in - Reality should be driving this one. The WAC has had 4 Bowl eligible teams since 1999. This year, we could have 5. The WAC needs to be working on this one.

7. NMSU - This team is coming back in-tact. Their recruiting classes are pretty special as well. I'm not saying they win the WAC. But I do believe they'll have enough wins to be Bowl eligible.

But...we'll se how things turn out.
I am with you on pretty much everything except NMSU being bowl eligible.. They are returning a lot of guys but that means it will be the same bunch that had only 2 wins against D-1 schools (USU and La Tech)..

The raggies have a pretty good offense but their defense was bad. I think they are still a year or two away from bowl considerations..

The problem with nos. 1 & 2 is that a season passed between these items and the WAC didn't have a football games on ESPNU in 2006 and wasn't part of Big Monday this past basketball season. Thats a downward trend from '05.

The FSN West 2 deal was supposedly brokered with KFVE. Once Time Warner got a hold of the PPV contract, they stopped allowing the FSN West 2 telecasts.

This was done before Boise St beat the Big 12 champion in the Fiesta Bowl and before Nevada was top 10 in the AP rankings in BB. Given those two things and the likely continuation of such occurrences, I think it's unlikely that ESPN will continue to snub the WAC. 2005 was one of the worst WAC FB seasons in its history due to the addition of 3 Sun Belt teams playing a WAC schedule plus their usual body bags with Sun Belt kids or worse. Things have been changing very quickly at each school for the better, at least as far as talent.

I hear that it's also likely that BYU wins the National Championship and the Heisman every year as well. At least using your dictionary...
Mattsarz - Yep. It's a downward trend for ESPNU...but we all know why.

I'm hoping the WAC and ESPNU can resolve this issue before football season starts. ...and if they do, I think the WAC will get some good news about WAC basketball as well.

Here's to hoping.
The best headline will be===

WAC GETS LOTS OF NATIONAL TV FOOTBALL AIRTIME

MWC GET LOTS OF AIRTIME ON MOUNTAIN TV.

When BYU can get to a BCS bowl in the last decade, I'll allow you to talk that way. Until then Boise St and the WAC has proven that arriving at a BCS bowl is very attainable.

Nice 6 day wait. That long and this is all you could bring? You're not even right, Utah proved that. Utah also proved that you can finish in the Top 4 and beat a BCS champ by 28 points (keep working on those 2 Boise State).
I think both conferences punched holes in the travesty that is...the BCS.

Hope it happens every year until the Cartel scam finally crumbles.

As I said, "BYU". I never said anything about the MWC or Utah. However, Utah beat Pitt in the Fiesta with Urban Myer as the HC. I'm not convinced that Kyle can get the Utes that far. I'm skeptical that any MWC can get that far.

You didn't say anything that wasn't both hypocritical and ridiculous. The MWC schools have 3 National Championships at the highest level of football while the WAC schools obviously have none.

Oh, and NO WAC school can EVER bust the B_$, because no WAC team will ever have Jared Zabransky ever again. lmfao
