Who in the world was in charge of selecting the costume for Bucky? This has to be the most god awful thing I have ever seen. I went to the App St game and took my 3 yr old. Even she had the look of "what the heck is that suppose to be?" Did they find this at Party City or something??? Surely someone can find a better looking costume.

I was watching a little of the Tampa Bay / Giants game and noticed the Tampa Bay mascot. Which got me thinking, can't we find something like that...or even better that Bucky from the 80's.

I guess if you wanted more attendance (at least male attendance) we could go with something like this...

But seriously, let's get rid of this thing and at least bring Pepper back!
Since Bucky was unveiled, I have always wondered why we needed a smurf for a mascot.
Personally, I think not only does our mascot need an overhaul, but so does our logo. The satanic pirate needs to go. I'm convinced that if Anton Lavey put on a pirate hat, that's what he'd look like. Mascots are supposed to be friendly looking to kids, not demonic. Bring pepper and the original Bucky back and get rid of this crap.[/align]
I agree. And also I cannot stand our new emblem with the big "B" and the sword. When I look at it I think of Butler Univ. or maybe Boston but not East Tenn State. What has happened to the old "ET" or ETSU symbols. We need emblems that say who we are and where we are from. I did not see a single ETSU hat on sale at the souvenir stand. I think it is symptomatic of a school that would cut out football and at the same time allow the basketball program to be downgraded.
I'm not as critical of this mascot as the others (I actually don't find him to be unattractive).

But I'm very pro-parrot mascot. And the original Bucky mascot with the big nose was drawn up by none other than Dr. Jerry Robertson.

The point I want to make, however, is the first thing they teach you in sports marketing is if you want to disassociate yourself with your city is to start referring yourself by your nickname and not the location.

In some ways that can be good. But it this case I'm not so sure.

ETSU needs to establish themselves as the home team in the Tri-Cities before they start expanding their market to Bristol, Virginia or Big Stone Gap, let alone Knoxville or Morristown.
I like our new pirate head logos. I do wish we would use the ET though.

And bucky is just....completely gay. A smurf pirate? Give me a break.

Give me Pepper! [Image: mascot-10.jpg]

Considering the University's slant to the left perhaps a Gay Pirate was an image they wished to cultivate.
The pirate head is ugly to me, but they used to use a logo with crossed swords and a shield in the front that was cool.
I'm with ya'll, bring back PEPPER!

Goldfinger

I don't dislike the idea of a mean looking pirate. But Pepper does hold a sentimental value for me.

Goldfinger

But I think what is clear...is that ETSU was better off ten years ago in every imaginable way. This mascot post just demonstrates that fans (those of us who are left) are disatisfied in every possible way.
I thought about that too!
I do miss the old Bucky and Pepper!

..... and while I am at it, Bring EAST TENNESSEE back on the basketball unis.

That etsu on them is garbage.
That parrot is bad ass! Who's he stepping on? Oh one more question.. I'm watching some of this crazy ETSU/Campbell game... but why is your nice court logo facing away from the camera side??
Pepper is stepping on the Western Carolina Catamount. And our logo faces the other way because thats where most of the people in the dome sit.
Oh cool, well that makes sense. I wish we had a nice logo on the court like that!

Your old mascot might be one of the best ever. That picture is priceless!
You might think that if the cameras are on one side and the fans are on the other the university would have the sense to put two logos on the court, one facing each way.

But, alas . . .
Yeah, makes sense. You've got a couple thousand fans looking at the logo the right way, and thousands more potentially watching on TV at home with the logo facing the opposite way. Just confirms many people's preconceived beliefs.
I could care less until that FIRST football game. Then I would like to see a Erol Flynn Swashbuckler Mascot escort the team onto the field. I can see it in my dreams.
