Watching the Motor City Bowl it looked to be a blow out and, frankly, an embarrassment for the MAC. The end-of-the-first-half interview with CMU Coach Jones seemed to be a stream of lame clichés of correcting blocking and tackling at half time by having the Chips keep their heads up and things would be fine.

To his credit, that’s what happened. Tying the game twice in the second half, the Chips made it a game that Purdue must have been very happy to win via a last second field goal.

Given the CMU coach’s news of interviewing for the WVA job, the Chips played an exceptional game and, for now, can lay claim that the MAC West title goes through Mt. Pleasant. The Chips visit to the Glass Bowl next year should be a sell-out to rival the Pitt game.
Did anyone catch the comment by Andre Ware about how impressed he was with the adjustments that CMU made during halftime for the 2nd half? He mentioned that a teams 3rd quarter performance reflects directly on the abilities of the coaching staff. I found that to be interesting...CMU scored 28 in the 3rd. How have we fared after halftime in recent years?

I looked at the '07 Chimps/Rocket game. The game was pretty even on Offense. The Rockets actually outgained CMU(482 to 462) and had the the ball longer(32 to 28 minutes),but special teams killed UT.The CMU drives started on average about the 43-44 yardline. The UT possessions started at the 20-21.Rockets didn't do a very good job of running the football.Opelt outperformed LeFevour. The UT Defense didn't force any turnovers and had 0 sacks.

it's also worth noting that the MAC refs could only find the yellow flag in their pockets when the blue team had possession of the ball. this most definitely had an impact on the outcome imho.

Penalties really didn't impact the Rockets that much in the CMU game.
It was 24-24 the Rockets fumbled a punt at the UT 34.CMU takes it in for a TD, 24-31 CMU.UT scores 31-31.The UT Defense has CMU 2nd and 29@the UT 37 and allows CMU to score,31-38 CMU.Rockets get the ball for the next series,Kern punts for 56 yards and Brown returns it for 42 yds.CMU scores on the series making it 31-45 CMU.Rockets go for it on 4th and 1 in the fourth quarter. They are stopped and give CMU the ball @the UT 43 yardline.CMU scores 31-52 CMU.That's the game. The majority of penalties on UT 6-44(CMU 3-25) yds, they overcame and actually scored in those penalized drives.

Redwingtom quote after the BG-
Buffalo game last year:

"BECAUSE THE SCREW UP WAS EITHER THE OFFICIAL'S OR THE BUFFALO HOME SCOREBOARD OPERATOR, NOT BG's."

I guess even T-shirt Falcon fans aren't immune from the occasional complaint about officiating. 03-wink

Total 6 penalties for 44 yards.

3 of the penalties occurred on UT scoring drives. The illegal formation combined with a QB fumble forced UT to punt as did a holding call.5 of 6 penalties occurred before the score was 31-31.The 6th occurred late in the game with CMU leading 52-31.So as I stated previously the game's outcome was not really effected by penalties.Special teams and bad defense played a much bigger part in the loss.
I agree that officiating shouldn't effect the outcome of games. Toledo needed to play above it and they didn't. Too many times I saw our players get frustrated by calls going against them or opponents getting away with things. We need to learn to play above that.
Also, it's kind of pointless to complain about the officiating.
