Article states CMU returns 9 starters on offense, including all 'skill' position players and 8 on defense (minus Ike Brown and Red Keith).

If Butch Jones returns, does next year's MCB feature CMU vs a Big Ten team with a over/under of 100 points? 02-13-banana

Maybe next year's game will have no punts and be 61 - 58 in regulation time. 04-cheers

CMU wins next time...
there are alot of starters back on alot of teams, I expect MAC to have wild '08 season.

No doubt about that. I expect more than a few MAC teams to take it to the next level in 2008. CMU, BGSU, Temple, Ball State...I like all these as favorites for 08. The MAC will be a better conference the next couple years as these star players mature and grow. Dan L of CMU is fun to watch...as long as it isn't your defense trying to stop him. 03-wink
CMU again will be the team to beat in the west with Ball State right behind them.

I AGREE 100%

On paper this the 07 team is the weakest one in the link...I was stunned to see CMU return as champ this year. They lost a ton off that 06 team, very impressive program wise to lose so many and return as champ. Congrats to CMU...
My oh my, lets not forget about the Bronco's. The team that lined up at Iowa included 9 off. and 11 def. returning '08 starters in that game. A game that was played AT Iowa, with Iowa needing a win to be bowl worthy and we whacked there asses 28-19. Hiller had a great game and should have a hell-of-a-year in '08. The Chips played a great game last night. So, let the fun begin for the fall of '08.
CMU's defense has a lot of room for improvement. It was very bad this season. Rated the worst in the MAC at 107th in total defense by giving up over 450 ypg and 35.8 ppg.
Actually, I'm looking forward to '09. We will be loaded with juniors and seniors that year and LaFevour will be a fifth year senior.
We also play Michigan State in East Lansing. I can't wait.

If WMU is not the MAC pre-season favorate it will be an absolute crime! 05-stirthepot
And here's a vote for EMU to be the surprise team in the MAC next year after beating CMU and WMU this year and only losing 12 seniors. CMU has Danny L but I have always liked Andy Schmitt who is just beginning to come into his own.
MAC West should be very fun to watch. Don't forget that NIU returns almost all of our players and we have a new coach who knows how to win.
Based upon how well MAC pre-season prognosticators fare, here's how I hope they predict next year's MAC West:

1) Western Michigan
2) Ball State
3) Eastern Michigan
4) Toledo
5) Northern Illinois
6) Central Michigan
The east looks even stronger...Miami has recruited very well over the past few years, BGSU returns just about everyone on defense and at the skill positions, OU adds a big time JUCO QB to a strong attack, Temple keeps their coach and matures a year...and you can't sleep on Buffalo or Kent either. The conference is going to be very exciting next year

I'll half agree with H'Cowboy.

EMU will be improved in '08 02-13-banana but the MAC West could be close to brutal (for a non-BCS conference) 03-nutkick.

Picking a surprise team might be difficult.

Does CMU or BSU count as 'surprise' teams if they finish nationally in the top 40????

I might be wrong, but potentially EVERY team in the MAC West will be improved.

If EMU is as improved as Cowboy and I think, the results will be most obvious in the OOC schedule. I was tempted to say with OOC and MAC East games but I don't know who we'll play and I wouldn't go off half cocked against teams like BG, UB, Ohio, MIA, and maybe Temple.

I can't wait for the Tigers '08 season and the '08 MAC season. 04-cheers

I'll already looking forward to seeing the '08 MAC spring prospectuses.
All this is for naught unless there are some big OOC wins. Just beating each other up in Conference play will not impress anybody. We need a strong OOC year, then very competitive conf races to get some attention.

They usually pick the teams with close likeness towards how teams finished. So it'll probably be something like CMU first, BSU second, Toledo third, WMU fourth, EMU fifth, and NIU last. I don't see how you can pick BSU first considering their offense isn't as diverse and explosive as CMU and they lost to them. You could probably switch Toledo and WMU. I don't necessarily think this is how teams will finish but this is usually how their chosen.

Easy there Chippy. Don't get too far ahead of yourself. At least by '09 I hope you will know your QB's name 03-wink

Okie, that is how I see the pre-season pick too! 02-13-banana
The problem with most of the MAC West teams this past season is the inability to stop the opposing team's offense. So whichever team decides to field a consistently adequate defense, week in and week out, will not only win the division but will give their entire OOC slate a run for their money.

Look at all the defensive categories and Toledo's defense was the worst in the MAC(lost 6 starters on defense-2 All MAC).Another problem was at QB where the Rockets lost during or were without the starting QB for the Liberty,Buffalo,WMU,Ball State and BGSU games-inspite of that UT was #1 in Total Offense,#1 Rushing,#2 Scoring Offense, and #5 Passing Offense.Look for the Rockets to be improved on both sides of the football in '08.
