EMU and UCF had an agreement to play, but apparently EMU backed out after watching UCF dismantle Tulsa on TV. This is coming from our beat writer who has confirmed this is true.

Something tells me that he didn't confirm that EMU backed out after watching UCF play. Something also tells me they got a better deal(1-1 or 2-1) with a REAL team from the BC$ that offered a **** load more money. But if it makes you happy, you can keep telling that to yourself. 03-wink
Isn't UCF known for dropping games at the last second? People who live in glasses houses...05-nono
I wouldn't necessarily call EMU backing out of any game Ducking :bean:

You go w/ the money!!!!
Eastern Michigan plays schools like Michigan, Pittsburgh, and Vanderbilt. i bet they were REAL scared of Central Florida! 03-lmfao

get a grip!

I guarantee your reasoning is flawed and assumptive. Having said that, I hereby volunteer the Huskies to take EMU's place. I'd love to have an excuse to come down to Orlando. 02-13-banana

As long as EMU honored their contract.. and pays whatever the buy out is.. who cares. Why EMU backed out of the game doesn't matter... they should do what is best for EMU.
There was no deal signed. This is completely erroneous and speculative. There was discussion about doing a 1-and-1 deal.

EMU had decided long before the UCF bowl game that a better deal was awaiting them...against a BCS school, which hardly constitutes "ducking out" of a game against a C-USA team.

Let's see, in the last four years, EMU has played Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Vanderbilt...yeah, they're really afraid of UCF.

They were probably afraid of catching some kind of "resume disease" down there.

A UCF fan talking trash about ducking out of games is hilarious considering the number of games that UCF has ducked out of in the last few years, including West Virginia. Did UCF duck out of it after seeing West Virginia dismantle Georgia at the Sugar Bowl?

LOL! A Cincy fan! Weren't you the one predicting Cincy would crush USM? Yet you barely beat them by 10 and looked downright mediocre? Yes, Cincy is truly BIG TIME.

As for EMU, it is what it is. We had a 1-1 offered and EMU ducked. This is NOT the same as you claiming to play Penn State or whatever ridiculous things you claim, as those are BUY games. Unless you can explain the reason EMU dropped the agreement, I'd say the beat writer is dead on.

This was already explained in my earlier post. EMU got a better deal ($$$) for a BCS opponent. That simple. Now, again, EMU did not duck anybody...there was no agreement signed....and this was decided before UCF's bowl game. Trust me...

I know you are not a regular poster here but this is fact.

And who is this BCS opponent? Is it a 1-1? EMU was looking for a 1-1 deal with a non-BCS team when this deal was verbally agreed on, and UCF was going to be the team. In otherwords, EMU was looking for a game that they wouldn't get killed in by avoiding a BUY game vs. a BCS opponent (2-1 or 1-and done). However, EMU saw that UCF had a damn good team and said "adios". The EMU agreement was VERY much real as it had been discussed at UCF booster luncheons by school officials.

Again...no deal was in place. Nothing was signed. Why can't you comprehend this? A money deal with a BCS school is more important for EMU than a home and home with a C-USA opponent for pure financial reasons. I wish that weren't the case, but it is.

I am not going to name the opponent until EMU makes the announcement but it is an ACC team. I am much closer to this information than your UCF beat writer.

The deal with UCF home and home was pretty much scuttled before Thanksgiving.

EMU is not ducking UCF. Good Lord.

Who is not comprehending here? I said VERBALLY agreed on. Last I checked, nothing is signed in verbal agreements. Again, you're not answering my question- is this ACC team providing a 1-1? I was told this was what EMU was looking for and I highly doubt this team is going to provide that, more like a BUY game.

As for you being closer to the situation- that's comical. The beatwriter gets his info directly from UCF officials. I heard the EMU series was indeed in the works directly from our AD's mouth.

Let's put it this way- UCF wants 7 home games a year and can generate a ton of revenue with 45,000 fans per game. This is why they wanted EMU. Now we are probably going to have to enter into some lame one-and-done agreement with the likes of Rutgers. There is no way this was UCF's intention or plan, therefore it obviously means there was an agreement in place with EMU or else we would have taken care of the open slot a long time ago.

Get over yourself. Who gives a damn? Can I buy you a box of Kleenex for Christmas so you can cry about not playing EMU? Go to your own forum.

Like I said...you are new here.

I am the EMU beat writer for usatoday.com, sportsline and CSTV. I also meet with EMU sports officials personally several times a week during football and basketball seasons; and am a longtime MAC beat writer, publisher of MAC Report Onlne and president of the MAC News Media Association..l did not want to have to play those cards, but you forced me.

So yes, I am much much closer to this information than you could ever understand. I was aware of this while it was happening and that writer is flat out wrong.
UCF poster: Owned.

A verbal agreement means nothing. Zero. Goose egg. The idea that EMU is afraid of UCF is laughable, especially because they're playing an ACC team instead. Maybe EMU wants a 1-1 but the money offer was too attractive. Either way, he's a lot more reliable talking directly to EMU officials than you are talking to some reporter who talked to UCF officials (this is what, thirdhand info at this point?), who are probably more interested in spinning.
I don't have the patience to read this entire thread so I'll jump in with something that may be repetitive.

I doubt very much that Eastern Michigan is afraid of playing Central Florida. Since when did Central Florida, or any team in C-USA for that matter, become a team the MAC is supposed to get worried about? I'm guessing Eastern Michigan was looking for a 1 and 1 and when they realized it wasn't going to happen, for whatever reason, they took a better offer. The better offer probably involves a BCS team willing to put up big bucks for a single game.

This kind of reminds me of the Central Michigan deal that almost happened with Mississippi State - and Central Florida is no Mississippi State. We were offered a 1 for 1 and we turned it down for a single game at Georgia in 2008 for a LOT more money. This sort of thing happens all the time these days. But I suppose someone in Mississippi could claim Central Michigan was afraid of Mississippi State so we backed out. The fact is, it's all about money.
What an embarrassing thread. Make it stop. Delete it or something.
