How can a team that is expected to be even better next season deal with its 3rd different coaching staff in 3 years03-banghead
Wow. CMU seriously needs to start a fund to help retain their football coaches.

We cannot come close to paying 1 million+ a year salaries to our HC in order to compete without BCS money.
precisely arro and that is the stinkin problem. This conference will never have the funds to keep its good successful young coaches.
A good start would be to start putting bigger buy-out clauses in their contracts. Might as well get some of the BCS money indirectly.

I agree with both of you. MAC coaching staffs seemed to get raided pretty bad after every season. I wonder if any other 1-A conference loses as many coaches as we do. It clearly has to do with coaches being underpaid but also has a lot to do with everyone bringing in quality guys and good coaches. We should start putting expensive buy-outs in our contracts because we may not necessarily keep them but we certainly know that the bigger schools will have no problem paying us to take our coaches since they seem to have deep pockets.
Central Michigan:

Two years, two head coaches, two MAC Championships

That has got to be a first for the MAC. Imagine if CMU wins it again next year with a third coach in 3 years.

As long as their coaches have Dan Lefevour i don't think it matters who is their coach.

What if its Jerry Kill? 05-stirthepot

From the (jk) press conference:

"Football is important at NIU, but there is not many Central Michigan's out there. A MAC Championship is at the doorstep every year in Mt. Pleasant."

Well, hopefully we put a big buy-out clause in our contract. The "CMU buy-out clause" specifies that CMU must pay major $ to us if they plan on taking him, even more if they win another MACC with Lefevour.
I wouldn't blame Butch for interviewing with WVU, but everything I've read and heard says he's in the 2nd tier of candidates. I doubt we lose him this season. In a couple more if things continue to go well, different story.
If Michigan doesn't shy away from paying WVA $4M for Rodriguez, MAC programs should have buyout clauses in their contracts that are a minimum of 2-3 times the annual coaches salary if not $1M. The coach you lose guarantees that you can pay your next HC more $ or spend the money on upgraded facilites which will help recruit better talent.

Also, a MAC program could use that money for the hiring process (i.e. using a search firm).

exactly right.. set up a 1 mil + buy out... and bingo u have another 250k per year extra for replacement coaches and assistants for the next 4 years..
Talking with WVU Fans on the ESPN Message board, they report that Butch Jones flew into Morganstown last night at 10:19pm. Apparently, a few fans were at the airport when they heard a flight was coming in from Michigan to see who it would be. Butch ended up coming off the plane. He is interviewing for the WVU first thing this morning. I have that same bad taste in my mouth where we could be without a head coach AGAIN for the bowl game. I feel bad for those players who have might have 3 different coaches in 3 years. It's just not right!

Highly unlikely that he was on a flight that arrived last night at 10pm. CMU's head coach Butch Jones was supposed to be at a Bowl Kick Off Dinner with the team, coaching staff and CMU's 1100 booster club last night in Mt. Pleasant.

Doesn't mean he didn't interview, just means he couldn't have been in two places at the same time.

Thanks for the insight. I hope he doesn't leave. I understand that WVU would pay 3 times as much as CMU could pay him, but we can't lose a coach eveyrtime we have a winning season!
He won't get the job. Look at the Sunshine state for the guy who will get it. Right now. It could change if someone comes in late.

Whats up Doc Holliday.

I'm amazed at Saban putting his name out there. Its been confirmed that he went to LSU looking for that job if Miles went to Michigan. This guy is such a scumbag. His wife hates everywhere were he lands at from reports. She appears to be Mrs Sunshine but Nick doesn't have the best personality.
