Trying to get info into one thread all the developments in '07 (what was done, what is starting, what is planned).

BG and NIU have completed their facilities this year. Both looked really great on TV.

BSU did a real nice job on their FB stadium.

Kent did some nice work on their FB stadium.

CMU did their new scoreboard.

UT: "Broke ground" this week for their renovation of Savage Hall. Also getting new turf for the Glass Bowl. (the drawings for Savage are awesome.).

What is the status of an indoor practice facility??

CMU: I believe their Board of Trustees have approved in concept a 20M renovation of Rose. I assume ground breaking (Spring, '09) is dependent on raising the $.

BG: I'm not sure what the story is for Anderson Arena. Anyone know what their studies are?

EMU: I believe is in the 'silent phase' of fund raising for an indoor practice facility. Don't have more details.

Am I missing anything????
Indoor facility of 100 yards is supposed to be a "Go" right now. It will be just west of Savage by the track I think. BG just got the green light on a new Convo center to replace AA. Very much in the planning stages. Don't know much about it but it has a completion date of 2010, I think. BG fans can fill in detail. Should be a huge boost for their program.

Do you know if both projects will be done simultaneously?

Or if UT will attempt to finish Savage before starting the IPF?

Two simultaneous projects next to each other might be tough.

Savage will be completed by the beginning of the 2008-2009 basketball season and the indoor practice facility (which will *include* a 100 yard football field as well as another basketball court) will be completed for the 2009 football season. The plans are still being drawn up for that.

Dan,

It sounds like the projects are essentially, complete Savage and then do the IPF.

Sounds likes one year for Savage and then another year for the IPF?
Among many other campus building projects, Buffalo has finally laid out plans for a field house to go up next to our stadium. The campus looks like it will remove one section of the endzone bleachers and mount the new video board on the field house building. It's a pretty generic drawing now, but it looks like they're well on their way to making it a reality. I've even heard that they want to build the "biggest field house in North America" but I haven't found out anything further about its dimensions.

Here's a PDF of all the plans they have for the campus, the field house is on page 4: http://www.buffalo.edu/ub2020/plan/files...ng_now.pdf

That's pretty much it. $28 Million of the $30 Million for the renovation of Savage Hall and new Athletics Complex has already been raised. About $2 Million of the $9-12 Million needed for the indoor practice facility has been raised at this time. UT plans on using revenue from the suites and primary seating of the new Savage Hall for the 2008-09 season to fund whatever is needed on the indoor practice facility after all fundraising is done for that. The indoor facility will have a full 100 yard football field, a basketball/volleyball court, and a track. It will be complete in 2009.

Toledo has secured home games against Houston, UMASS, Dayton, and Rhode Island.......and are working on a "Big-Time" school for the opening game. Many of these road games UT is playing this year was done so that we could host these schools in the new Savage next year.

The bidding process for the new Glass Bowl turf is under way and the new turf will be ready for the home opener next fall.

Toledo will receive 5,000 tickets for the game at Michigan next fall. Those tickets will be made available to season ticket holders and donors. The UT Alumni Association will also have some bus trips available.

Toledo will have a number of tickets for the 2009 Ohio State game available for students to purchase at a discounted rate. Toledo will have a student section at the game. Ohio State is only receiving 12,500 tickets for the game, so they probably won't have a student section.
Wow. Congrats to UT for thinking big and making it happen.

Wow to UB. A field house is a must for a school located in the snow belt. (and I include EMU in that snow belt - my friends in Detroit say they are getting a blizzard today).

A new basketball building is a go. There was an announcement a couple weeks ago. Construction would start in 2010. No design yet. Few details are out there.

Perhaps the most exciting part of this is that BGSU seems committed to learning from other schools' experiences and trying to maintain what's great about Anderson Arena.

(Insert jokes here if you must, but, for big games, that barn really rocks like no other place in the league).

Rumor is, they are looking at building a place with 5,500 seats. This has been the subject of some debate among fans, some of whom want more seats. But I think it's the right way to go.

I've been to UB's arena. Nice place, but it's just way too big. My sense is that a lot of our programs have over built, and it looks like we are going to avoid that mistake.

This is technically not MAC related, but BG is also looking at major improvements to the BGSU Ice Arena starting in 2009. This is a big deal as it could help get our hockey program back to where it was during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Oh, save me, it's another facilities-porn thread!
Akron is starting to build its new football stadium, or at least beginning to clear the land for it.

Wow, how did I forget Akron. I sent drawings of the new stadium to a friend but forgot to mention it here.

I guess the reason I forgot it is that the details have been published and work has begun.

in '07 NIU, BG, KSU, Akron, and UT started or completed work on athletic facilities.

Pretty amazing 5 of 13 schools. 04-bow

To add, I think 5,500 is the way to go. The funds are already dedicated and the architect has been named.

Half of the hockey funds are earmarked with the remaining coming from private donations. Rumor has it that they are going to take seats away and upgrade quite a bit of infrastructure.

Also, Field Turf is being installed in the indoor practice facility in the spring.

I have a feeling there will be more announcements in the next 12 months.
I believe the only remaining school which I think needs to remodel their basketball arena would be Miami.

Almost everyone else has built or remodeled (in the 90s or 00s) or have approved plans to begin work by the end of this decade or by '10.

MAC facilities for FB, hoops and indoor practice should be top notch for time to come. 04-bow

Improved facilities and increased FB television coverage are two big MAC stories for '07.
Steve... Don't start taht. It's somethign we fight about on MHT a lot.

Kind of like the last second three that's beaten us twice this year...

Please stop with this TV stuff. There may be a few more games on locally but overall it is neutral at best and not a positive in my opinion.

Rumor has it he did the new addition to the Guggenheim, and it didn't take too long.

Yes. That's why I wrote:

I've bolded that above.

I'm not sure how you missed it the first time.

Perhaps you've been spending too much time making your signature stupider.

Oh, please. Grow up! Do you really think it would be possible to make it stupider? 03-wink
