Updated because Amazon raised the price to $74.99.

This is a GREAT deal on a slim MP3 player that does video and has an expansion memory slot too, $49.99 with free shipping. It is $90 on Circuit City. Just snagged one for my wife.

Sansa 2GB MP3 Player

For those not familiar with MP3 players, what I LOVE about the non-Ipod players like this is that in addition to ripping songs from your own CDs and buying songs for 99 cents on online stores, these will let you subscribe to unlimited music subscription services like Napster for $15 a month and load that sucker with anything you want.

Oh, and you can grab one of these to listen to tunes on your trip to the bowl game in Birmingham 04-rock

x2 on what willy said. my girl just got this for her dad on amazon a couple days ago--great deal. it's a very good mp3 player. i got her the 4 gig version last christmas and it's been great. if you want to save a few more bucks snag a new one on ebay, about 35 on there.

to hell with ipods. check out http://www.anythingbutipod.com for everything music player related. for myself, i use the creative zen vision:m 30 gig black model, and it's simply amazing. can be had for 100 bucks or less now too.

Merry Christmas
We got one of these for our daughter, but unfortunately paid $20 more for it.
Zen is the best Ty.. specially since it displays more colors, work with more formats.. and ohh yeah isnt made by mac.. win win for me..
I use the Dell Jukebox. I'm not sure if they're even made anymore but you can find some on eBay. 30 gigs for under 80 bucks.

Might have to get one of these too though. Hard to pass up such a good deal.
Sorry, I'll keep my 160GB iPod.
Im not a very technological person. I have a cell phone, but it sits in the center console of my car for emergency purposes only. I think Ive used it 3 times total. Thus, Id never consider getting an ipod or anything like it. I still use a walkman and CD player to go along with the AM radio while in the car. :) Looks pretty nice though.

I do see people with their ipod ear plugs in while driving though. Not to bright.

If that is all you do (4 miles)? Why even go out and get your shorts dirty? I'm pulling your leg, these days. I retired from the Army in 1985 and we were going 6 miles a day, 100 pushup and 100 situps, before we broke for breakfast. That included all the women in our unit. I hope you can work your way to that.

chris, i can't imagine running that early in the morning. i run at night right before i go into work. in the summer i catch two runs, one in the afternoon/evening at the park and one at about 11 pm on the road. roads are clear where i live so i'm not bothered, except maybe by the random possum or raccoon i have to share the road with : ). and they're not always dead either, i had a possum try and chase me down. guess i ran too close and he wheeled around and started heading after me. i have a workout regimen that i try to do everyday, including your pushups (250), situps (250), crunches (250), and of course my daily run. good for the abs. when i'm not racing (i do 5k's, 3.1 miles) i try to get the 4 miles in 25 mins. my fastest 5k is 17 min.

gotcha, thanks ty. haven't even thought about looking online, every best buy or circuit city i go into doesn't have one. it would help a lot. holding that zen is like holding a stone and running, plus i've got the headphone wire wrapped around my hand a couple times. gotta have it though, running would be so boring if it weren't for the music...
As you can imagine, the military runs in formations. Otherwise you would have a gaggle of geese out there trying to get from Point A to Point B. Something like a monkey and a football. Running in formation is not easy. You have long striders (distance and tall people) short striders (females and short men) and everything in between. When I was in (and I retired 22 years ago), every unit's goal was what was called an "airborne shuffle" which translated to 4 miles in 32 minutes, or 8 minute miles. That is in formation, mind you, and even though we had people who could easily do 6 miles in 36 minutes or 6 minute miles, they were constrained by the formation. Just like when teaching, you teach to the lowest member, in running, you can only go as fast/slow as the slowest member.
They want 75 bucks for it not 49. Did this change since you posted?

Yep, it was $49.99 yesterday morning, then went up to $59.99 and now this the $74.99 price. Amazon does this all the time with their pricing. That is why I jumped on the $49.99 price as soon as I saw it.

i know what you mean, that's why i try to analyze just who i start off running next to at the beginning of the race. get behind the wrong people and you can burn a hell of a lot of time just trying to get around them. i like to start up front and get out of the gates quickly. within the first 2 or 3 mins, everyone is separated and on their own pace. it's getting out of the pack that's difficult.
Thats a good pace for running. I got the Garmin 305 watch, pricey at over $300 but fun to upload your runs after the fact.

If you want something good to run with and it is probably still cheap I used to use a Creative Labs Muvo that's about the size of a lighter.

Now I run without headphones normally just to give myself a break for hearing protection purposes. Running on city roads with all the cars means you have to crank the MP3 high to hear it adn that's bad for the ears.
