Now that Jerry Kill has signed a five year contract, what are our expectations for that period? Here's the threshold where I would be pleased. Anything better is great, anything less is a problem:

4 winning seasons
3 bowl appearances
2 wins over Toledo
1 MAC championship
Just 2 wins over the school in Northwest Ohio. I expect 5 by 30 or more each time.

where is that BCS bowl birth....just kidding sounds like a good expectation to have, I would also add on to that and say having more NFL players, the more you have, the easier it is to sell your school.
Borrowing from '81's list....
Expectations:
4 winning seasons
High graduation rate
Extremely rare police blotter appearances
Few transfers out
Consistently produce one of the top 5 offenses and defenses in the MAC
Streak of 1000 yard rushers continues

Aspirations:
3 bowl appearances
Winning record vs. Toledo
2 MACC appearances
1 MAC championships
Lead conference in all-MAC players 3 times
multiple Academic All Americans
I expect him to compete for a MAC Championship his firist year. The 2nd year will defiantley be a rebuild/reload year.

Exactly. Since when do I agree with 7?

Next year's team is the most talented team in NIU history, and if Coach Kill can get them to work, then the MACC is ours. Anything less I'll be disappointed. And no more losing to teams we aren't supposed to lose to...like SIU.
Joe played no small part in establishing a donor base that was unprecedented in NIU history. Outisde of what happens on the football field, Kill has to be able to carry his share of the load with donors, alums, etc. so the IPF and renovations to Huskie Stadium become realities, and soon.
I expect JK to take us to the next level...meaning we compete every year for a MAC championship...Novak laid the foundation and I expect and believe Jerry Kill will take this program up another notch.
four of five seasons more than 2 games above .500
two MAAC appearances - one title
two bowl appearances - one or two wins
three wins vs BCS opponents
five NFL rostered players
NIU QB who signs with an NFL team = to Wolfe

few off field distractions
no tirades which embarrass players , fans & admin.
maintain grad rates
genuine, approachable at social gatherings for boosters & others
active in the community with athletes
Barring injuries, he HAS to show us that he can be a gameday coach. He'll have the talent next year, he should compete for a MACC.

After next year, we'll field good teams, but I'll give him a little pass for years 2-3. Winning will be an expectation, but not getting to the MACC for me will be no big deal. Years 4-5 are really what I'll put my stock in b/c those will be the years he has to do it with HIS guys. Which will be a reflection on his ability to RECRUIT.

I'll be a little more lenient/realistic:
-1 MACC
-2 MACC appearances
-Winning season 4/5 years
-Rolling attendance figure of 23k+
-2 bowl appearances
-Continued program development via facility upgrades and donor relations
-taking fliers on PJ types. They are our identity as a program.
-and most importantly for me...having a philosophy on both sides of the ball and recruiting kids to fit that philosophy or adapting the philosophy to coincide w/ your personnel.

I never understood why Joe recruited all these athletes at the QB position and then was to stubborn to let them do what they do best. Brown, Davis, Lowe, Harnish, Grady it makes no sense! If you were gonna be a smashmouth O, then let those kids go elsewhere and invest in some Hogs up front!

I am guardedly optimistic about the hire. SIU was a program facing extinction at the turn of the century and he did a St. Joe-like resurrection. It tells me he knows how to recruit and build a program that isn't blessed with a whole lot of the spoils. Hoping he brings a little bit of the spread with him. Harnish and a healthy Clanton in the spread has me really excited!
I think we should hold him to high expectations. Despite our most recent season he is inheriting a program in excellent condition with a ton of talent. Barring a ton of injuries we should compete for the MACC in 2008 and win one within his first three years.

I would hope that he has winning seasons in 80% of his tenure with bowl appearences in 60% of his seasons with us.

When coach Tressel took over tOSU following his job at DIAA Youngstown State his comment was that the job is pretty easy because you only need to do three things to be successful

1) Win all of the games
2) Graduate all of the players
3) Sell all of the seats in the stadium for each home game
I didn't think he had much in terms of talent 2 years from now and beyond. I thought our recruiting classes were weaker... Is this wrong??
i'll cut him some slack with a transition year

4 BCS bowl games
5 MAC Championships
1 non-BCS bowl game
5 top 25 recruiting classes
5 bronze stalk trophies
1 appearance by Cindy Crawford at Huskie Stadium

They have been. After the 08 season, Kill has his work cut out for him. But I have full confidence that he'll get the program back where it should be.
I expect better recruiting. Not that Novak was bad, but Kill said he is a strong recruiter, i'd love to see some real difference makers in DeKalb.
with the talent next year i just want to see a bowl game, and over his time here i would like to see a MAC Title, and consistent winning seasons, and a top three MAC Recruiting class each year
I have big expectations for whoever would have taken over.

1) Beat Minnesota
2) MAC Championship
3) Win our bowl game

"And a partridge in a pear tree"..
Seriously though, I think these are good expectations. What I would add is this; wins over BCS opponents in non-con games. To get any level of respect and to attract more recruits, it's not going to be enough to lose the non-con games and win out in the MAC. A record of 7-5 might get a MAC championship and a bowl game, but it won't get respect from the nieanderthals who think the BCS schools and Notre Dame are the only programs that matter.
