Full Version: Britt bails out

He dropped his commitment. Not a surprise, he wants to be a QB and that wasn't going to happen at UC.
said he wasn't being shown enough love...
That hurts. No matter how you want to spin it, it's not good.
he will probably float over to a MAC school and be just fine. This was inevitable, best of luck to him.
NVExel Wrote:said he wasn't being shown enough love...

I guess a schollie is not good enough? Did he want a guarantee that he would start QB? Minter did that with Chad Plummer and it was not in the best interest of UC or Plummer. IMHO if Plummer would have played WR he would have had a shot at the NFL. Brent Petrus could have started at QB.
That's a shame, Britt could have made a fine QB or WR, although I would bve much more worried if we didn't already have Demetrius Jones in the fold and Brendan Kay performing at such a high level.
As an athlete he is good, but as a QB, he has a long way to go. I would rather he decommit than be miserable and pissed off because he isn't playing where he wants.

Good timing

Don't know if you saw my football story in the Post today, but in it, I talked about the unlikelihood that all three incoming QB recruits, the two redshirted freshmen this year and the plethora of others in the program (Ben Mauk, Dustin Grutza, Tony Pike and Craig Carey) all would play for UC next year.

From my story:

Even if Mauk isn't granted that extra season of eligibility, Kelly will still have a logjam at quarterback next season. That, however, is not to say every player scheduled to be here next year will play at UC.

There's been some talk lately that Trotwood-Madison quarterback Domonick Britt, who committed to the Bearcats last June, is reconsidering his decision. A quarterback currently on the team could choose to transfer, though nobody has implied that's the case.

Well, news has broken. Britt told scout.com today that he was reopening his recruitment.

From scout.com

I was just not feeling the love from (Cincinnati) anymore. There were a ton of schools coming up to the school to visit with Coach Douglass about me, but I did not hear that much at all from UC. They were not really sending me as many texts or calling me like some of these other schools.

You didn't even mention the ND transfer.

I think Britt's making a wise decision.

I think the Trotwood Madison QB is very adept at figuring out the obvious. However, UC didn't text him enough? Man, ...I will save my comments since he is still a kid.

I get that the situation puts him at a disadvantage next year, but only because he is apparently not as good as the other QBs. Or, he is not willing to work as hard as the others in the mix. The process of choosing a school is a very tough decision and very hard for an 18 year old to make. He is just a kid, so I wish him the best. And if he makes it big, he needs a PR person to write better replies. Don't feel the love? I hope he was joking...

Bye bye. I'm sure you'll make a great receiver for some other school. Maybe they'll show you some love.

Hmmm-two things. Is BK neglecting recruiting because he doesn't think he is going to be here next season? UC now doesn't have a single player in the entire Ohio Top 50-that is not building a program!

Secondly-did was his punishment of El-Amin a single to prospective schools that he is zero-tolerance type of guy?

I'm glad college football is broad enough for these kids to go out and play elsewhere. There's not much sense in wasting away on someone's bench.

Kenny Anderson came to the Bengals from little ole Division 3, Augustana College.

Better to play.

How many are really going to the pro's anyway? Football's about fun. Warming someone's bench isn't fun.

Perhaps UC wasn't texting or calling him as much because he already committed to them, there is no need to sauce him anymore.

umm. Mike Mickens and Haruki Nakamura were not even in the top 100 of the state of Ohio. How did that work out.

Bearcatfan:

Are you saying you wouldnt' take any of the players in the Ohio Top 50? Seriously? Would you turn Kyle Rudolph away? That is assinine.

I'm not saying that being highly rated is dispostive of success-it certainly isn't. But BK needs to get as much talent in here as possible. The better the talent-the better the results. Mickens is a diamond in the rough and there aren't enough out there.

If BK wants to build this program, we should be able to at least beat Louisiville, WVA, Iowa, etc. for some of these recruits. This year we are striking out (except for Truesdale).

I hope britt comes to UC. Better athletes mean competition and he was going to play WR or slot anyway.

I would take someone like Kyle Rudolph in a heartbeat. But in reality he had bigger things on his mind and never gave UC a shot.

So with that being said it is not the end of the world if we don't get someone like Kyle Rudolph. I know the bearcats need people like him to stay in Cincinnati, and they will in time. But we need to keep winning.

Before we get Kyle Rudolph we have to convince some of the players in the 20-50 range to come to UC. Right now-0 have. That's right, 0.

I agree with 9:21's earlier comment. Britt may not have been hearing from UC because he had already committed.

I have read that kids get tired of the text messages (that they have to pay for) and the hounding by coaches. Sometime, that is why they pick a college early just to stop the insanity.

I hope he decides to stay with his commitment and attend UC. We can use the talent and the competition.

We need to land top players from Cincinnati, the State of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.

"Britt may not have been hearing from UC because he had already committed."

Eh-most coaches know they have to hold players hands throughout the process-unfortunately that is how it has become.

I agree with the other fans-we have definitely done more with less than many of the other Big East teams...but still Louisville is getting much better talent and so it Pitt (by a lot!). Kind of ridiculous. To be honest-we are compteting with MAC teams for our players-not other Big East teams. This has to stop.

The reason why he was not getting texts from the UC coaches is because the NCAA banned text messages last July. So, the real question is who IS texting this kid?

Nevertheless Britt does not need to come sit behind Jones for the next three years. If he does not want to sit and learn his trade he should go to Ohio U and be a QB there.

What rating was Demetrius Jones? Probably a little higher than Britt.

You rating guys are a joke. There is a little more than just the "diamond-in-the-rough" Mickens. How about T-Byrd, Huber, Bujnoch, Barnett, and Nakamura from this year's team. How about no-names like Trent Cole, Brent Celek, and Jason Fabini. None of these guys had any kind of a rating, but they all had football smarts and heart.

I would bet most of you ratings guys never lined up once in a real (not Madden) football game. When a 230 pound linebacker is coming your way, your rating isn't worth a crap.
Britt was getting less "love" from UC because UC cooled on him as a quarterback. He had little chance of playing QB for UC for the next three years so he would have had to switch positions which he does not want to do.

Best of luck at his next destination. He is a kid with talent, but he's a better fit somewhere else. What UC really needs in my opinion is some more linemen to develop the year after next.

But the clincher was when Kelly didn't add him as a friend to his myspace page.03-hissyfit
I tought texting was now BANNED and ILLEGAL by the NCAA? What school is texting him? That is an NCAA violation...
As far as I remember they put the texting under the calls radar.. meaning only soo much per week.. so it was limited to like 15 texts a week or something.. that is what i remember from those conversations about a year ago..

after looking into it.. you were right.. texting was banned.. I think the 15 limit was a proposed cutback..
its all a cop out on his part. If he wants to go another direction you can't fault him. Whether they change positions or not, the QB spot is very crowded. Kelly knows this as well and since he grabbed D from the Damers, he might not be pressing to keep all of them. Maybe he was hoping he would have a defector to help alleviate the crowd. I hate to lose a very gifted athlete, but i can see why he may be interested in moving in another direction, especially if other coaches are working his ego over more than Kelly and staff.

Laughed when I read that, too.
I didn't think the whole texting thing had been implemented yet... I thought it started in February or something?
originally implemented in August..

If the young man believes his fortunes are better served at a different school, then he should go elsewhere. Good luck to him.
