Memphis has had a slow start in football recruiting but the pace has picked up considerably the last few weeks. Winning a few games definitely helps. As of now the following developements have taken place:

We got a solid committment from Marcus Hightower - Whitehave RB. He's very excited about becoming a Tiger. I think he's playing in an upcoming Allstar game in Memphis so you all make sure he gets support and make him feel good. This kid is very underated and could make an immediate impact. VERY, VERY FAST kid with good open field running ability. Makes people miss!!!

We are also in the running for Tenarrius Wright - Whitehaven LB/DE. (3 Star prospect) He commited to AR but is reconsidering since Nutt has left. Same scenario. Support him and show him the Tigers really would love to have him. Big kid that can play with his hand down and rush the passer.

I don't know if you remember Rod Davis - 2006 WR Woodale. Signed with Ole MS. He never enrolled. I heard he wants to come to Memphis. This kid was a top 100 prospect. We recruited him late and almost made him change his mind. Coach Kenny Ingram (Melrose) recruited him. He said Coach Ingram reallly made his decision hard.

We are in the mix for 2 QB's. BJ Alexander from FL. (Mike Vick type QB) and Tyler Bass (More of an athletic pure passer). Bass is very, very interested. BJ is interested as well but he has a big list of suitors. Coach Ingram is recruiting Bass and the OC is recruiting BJ.

Theres also an outside chance we can still get Antonio Harper of Melrose. (LB - 3 Star prospect) . I will save that for a later time but don't count him out yet.

If we catch a few breaks the talent could be significantly better next year. They would be very young though!

If we get Harper from Melrose - Tommy will be rocking....He is a stud
Awesome Payday. . .thanks for the update! It is GREATLY appreciated.

Here's the profile on Marcus Hightower. Looks lean and fast. . not a typical RB build, but he'll probably profile as more of a special teams ace, at least initially until he adds strength.

Here's the profile on Tenarius Wright:

somebody needs to pass this info on to scout and rivals. maybe by the time signing day comes around, they'll update our recruiting info
Wow, Marcus Hightower...I know this kid! I wonder what happened to him. I use to watch him play pee wee ball. Scout is right about him being special with the ball in his hands. It happened along time ago when I saw him but he was absolutely amazing playing the QB spot back then. I put a bug in his ear about the U of M even back then. Tommy is looking for character kids, he is one from a good family plus he's a good athlete. I think if we get him you guys will be impressed. I wondered about Coach Tommy West but if he can spot this talent without impressive statistics he's got my blessing.
Hightower has a lot of athleticism. I saw him twice this year and he looked like a good combo guy - lots of speed and had some nice moves.
Did Rod Davis have to go to junior College or did he enroll at Ole Miss?

He did not go to Ole Miss due to grades and I don't think he went to JC but if he didn't have grades he still may not be able to play D-1 next year because he has not enrolled in school yet. Not sure how that rule works.
thanks for the update - the QBs are surprise names as well...would be great if TW could take advantage of the shakeups at AR, OM and USM...sounds like he is trying with Wright and also sounds like Coach Ingram is doing a very good job as well...

Bass at least is a high school player. Alexander doesn't show up on rivals or scout despite having lots of suitors (par for the course with those sites)
Before the coaching change at Ole Miss Rod Davis was set to enroll in January, but not sure now.

Sorry fellas. I gave you the wrong name. The second quarterback's name is BJ Daniels, NOT BJ Alexander. If you go to you tube they have footage on him.

Your also correct about Coach Ingram. He been a valuable asset to our recruiting. Don't forget Coach Ingram graduated from Whitehaven and coached Melrose. Those connections are proving to be very beneficial.

thanks for the info...Tiger fans can be every bit as rabid about football as basketball if given the chance...there has been little info for the past few months, but posts like these are great...
we may break into the top 150!

Still not qualified, I'm told...grapevine info, though, not a specific source.
That would be huge to get Rod Davis. The guy is a bad a$$ from what i hear.
Any new developments in football recruiting?
I'm told second hand that Antonio Harper is still solid for Miami, but that was from a few days ago, before Walton was let go. There could be other issues which seem like they could impact his commitment, though. We'll see. But for now it is still Miami.
Antonio Harper is still solid for Miami

It would be ashame for him to go there and awful career decision. The head coach has maybe one year or at most two more years before he is fired. Harper would either be a red-shirt sophomore or junior with a new head coach and staff. That most likely would be at least two more years of losing. It wouldn't leave much room to go bowls games. Miami is a program on the way down like FSU and if he goes there he will sink with them or transfer.
