SAD LOSS TO OAKLAND (WHICH DIVI STATE TEAMS ARE WE BETTER THAN?)

NO INSIDE PRESENCE WHATSOEVER - WE WERE KILLED IN THE PAINT. P.S. ARGUABLY OAKLANDS BEST PLAYER (KANGAS) DID NOT PLAY AND THEIR BIG CENTER (TRANSFER) ONLY PLAYED ABOUT HALF THE GAME BECASUSE OF BEING INJURED IN THE SECOND HALF.

COULD BE A LONG YEAR!
Dennis, none of this should be surprising.

Eastern is very weak up front but we knew that long before the season started.

The only thing which will 'save' Eastern is that the MAC West looks weak again with only Western strong and CMU maybe.

UT is getting kicked as is BSU and NIU.
I just found this from the Detroit Free Press. The game could have easily been a 30 point loss:

"The fact that Oakland shot so poorly from three-point land (3-for-15) and the free throw line (17-for-33) had coach Greg Kampe wondering how his team put up 86 points.

Then he noticed the rebounding.

Oakland (2-1) out-rebounded Eastern, 56-33, including 28-10 on the offensive end. It was the second straight game the team posted 20-plus offensive boards.
STEVE, THE ARTICLE SAYS IT ALL. I LISTENED TO THE GAME ON 1310 AM AND THE ANNOUNCERS WERE JUST ESTATIC. IT WAS AN OLD FASHION BUTT KICKING TO SAY THE LEAST. HAVE A LOT OF COACHIGN QUESTIONS. WHY DID MEDLOCK ONLY PLAY 12 MINS AND TAKE ONLY 2 SHOTS?. EVEN THE ANNOUNCERS QUESTIONED IF HE WAS IN THE DOGHOUSE OR WHAT? THEY AGREED THAT WHILE HE WAS IN THERE THAT HE DID THE BEST DEFENSIVE JOB ON OAKLANDS PG JONES. WHY DID GAY START AND ONLY PLAY A FEW MINUTES? NOT QUITE UNDERSTANDING RAMSEY'S SUBSTITUTION PATTERNS. WHY DID DOBBINS GET ONLY 2 REBOUNDS ALL DAY? THE LIST OF QUESTIONS GOES ON AND ON BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS IT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE A LONG YEAR.

WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOLOMON FARRIS PLAY MORE - MY PERSONAL OPINION ONLY.
BOTTOM LINE - TEAM WAS NOWHERE READY TO PLAY AT OAKLAND AND GOT POUNDED.
Medlock had 3 fouls within the first 6 minutes of the game. he was in foul trouble the entire time. it had nothing to do with being in the doghouse. Dobbins was also constantly in foul trouble.

i find it hard to believe that it is possible for us to win a game if we can't get 30+ minutes each out of those two guys.
THANKS EMU AARON. I AGREE WITH YOUR ASSESSMENT. VERY DISSAPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST.

First, Don't Panic!

Second, it is common courtesy to turn off the cap lock key when writing messages. It doesn't make your statements more important or easier to read with all caps.

Now, to the game itself. Medlock and Dobbins were in foul trouble early in the game. By 15:00 left in the first half each had 2 fouls. Medlock got his 3rd foul at 13:17 in the first half. Dobbins sat a lot after his 2nd foul but drew his 3rd foul just before halftime. The announcers, and you, were apparently not paying sufficient attention to catch that fact.

Oakland's players were too quick for Gay's defensive skills. He still managed 6 pts and 1 rbs in only 7 min playing time.

You also missed the fact, and I'm sure the Oakland announcers weren't going to mention it, that Ramsey's halftime adjustments lead to EMU actually outscoring OU in the second half. That happened in spite of the fact that I don't think I've ever seen Eastern shoot as badly from the arc as they did last night.

I though Farris played quite well (5 pts, 1 rb, 1 to, 1 steal), considering he's a true freshman. I think there's a lot of potential in this recruit and I think he will get his PT as the season progresses.

Farrow played 35 min and logged 6 pts and 7 rbs. Bunkley's foot appears to be OK. His 19 pts lead EMU in scoring and he grabbed 4 rbs.

Rebounding is the greatest problem with this team. They were out rebounded, again, 56-33. Dobbins is too foul prone, Dodd is not ready for prime time. The team desperately needs James Mathews to bring his "A Game", even if its in a back up capacity. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen until next semester.

There positive things to take away from last night's game. Let's hope some of the problems are ironed out and the team begins to gel by time the team returns from the NY trip to face UDM.

See you at the Convo.
Thanks - lets hope they get it right soon. Seems like they don't move their feet that well on defense and the rebounding without Bowdry is poor.

Hope you are right on Farris and P.S. He can rebound for a guard/wing.

Just tired of the losing and frustrated that we were out of it from the getgo.

I hear you and feel the same on many points. We just have to keep the faith. I still believe that Ramsey's the man who take this program to where it should be.
I read the strange stuff regarding lineups and playing time. My guess is that this team is more concerned with the 16 conference games. Until conference play starts, I'm just going to view every non-conference game as an exhibition.

There might have been positive points in the game, but I doubt that was one of them.

I believe that game, like the Brown game, the winners coasted to victory in the 2nd half.

I listened to the Oakland game (while watching FB) and I got the impression they were simply trading baskets (that makes the game SEEM closer then it actually was).

EMU, I don't believe, every threatened Oakland in the 2nd half. Never got to single digits.

This is exactly what also happened in the G'town rout of UofM. G'town sprinted to a 20+ point lead in the 1st half and UofM actually OUTSCORED G'town in the 2nd half.

I'd say that is close to meaningless. Gar bage' time as they say. Trading meaningless baskets.

Bad losses are bad losses. Forget them and the excuses and move on to the next game.

Your impressions formed, as they were, while you were watching a football game and listening to the game over the radio lack credibility. They can't rise above the status of opinion.

I was at the game and fully focused on the play on the court. It was hardly garbage time. The effort in the second half was significantly better than that given in the first half. The team could have folded but it didn't. They even outscored an opponent that was much more talented and experienced then they were when they could have just folded and no one would have been surprised. I give both the team and Ramsey credit for raising their level of play in the second half. I also think it is a sign of character in the team which I haven't seen this year. It certainly wasn't present in the Brown game.

You might not value effort and improvement unless it leads to victories, but I saw something hopeful in an otherwise disappointing game against Oakland. I saw Ramsey teaching and holding the team together and keeping a bad situation from spinning out of control. I saw the team listening to its coaching staff and continuing to play hard even in the face of a superior opponent. These things are important, especially to the future success of this team and program.

No excuses were offered.
Sorry, this team should be 3 - 0 or 2 - 1 with a nail biter loss to Oakland.

Oakland was #136 in the Sagarins last year, hardly the G'town of mid-majors.

This is 'our line' from the '07/'08 Sagarins (we're ranked #271 and our strength of schedule is #278).

Two of the three games at home against very weak opponents and the 3rd was played only one hour from Ypsilanti. One hour and 10 minutes from Hell, MI too. No jokes about the first half as being the half from hell.

271 Eastern Michigan = 64.59 1 2 65.99( 278) 0 0 | 0 0 | 62.80 285 | 65.15 262
