Sitting in Section 441, Row 2, Seat 2 on September 1st, 2007 watching my first ever NIU Huskie game @ beautiful Solider Field, a game I had been waiting for since I decided to transfer back in January 2007. It had finally arrived and when the NIU Band played the Huskie Fight Song before the game and all the NIU fans stood up and sang ... I had finally made it, I was apart of "Huskie Nation." 04-rock02-13-banana
Two words: Ala Bama

No Question!!

+1 - a guy on my floor cut his hand open climbing the chain link fence to get to the goal posts.

Aurora Huskie Wrote:My family and I moved to Chicagoland in 2000 with no affiliation to NIU whatsoever. My son and I went to our first game in 2002 and loved it. During 2003 we got tickets to the Maryland game and we took a friend of his and his dad. My son was 11 at the time and that was the single greatest game we had witnessed together. As a result of that game we are now:

-Season ticket holders
-HASF members
-tailgaiters (5 hours before kickoff)

As a result of that my son who is now 15 has been to The Big House/The Horeshoe/Kinnick Stadium and Wiskie. Most of his friends never have had these experiences and we look forward to many more.

One season changes nothing. My son and I will be there for many years to come!

Wow. Probably the best post I have seen on here since I joined. Those kind of "testimonys" really make you realize that we are Huskie Nation, and even a 1-11 or 2-10 season cannot take away the pride we have in NIU and our team.

This is why it is so important for us to get back on track, start winning, and win some big games. This is the best way to attract season ticket holdors and donors. How many other Aurora Huskies are out there waiting to be sold?
I was not a sports fan at all, and I was only a Sophomore in high scool.

Flames24rulz had forced me to watch various sporting events on tv with him because I had nothing better to do, so i did, but I was not interested in the very least.

Flames24rulz also told me that NIU had a football team that was in the 'best division' and I was like "naww" and he said it was true, and that we were playing a ranked team and that we should go. I also heard it was on TV, so I thought that it might be kind of cool to experience it as a one time thing.

I had nothing going on that evening of September 28, 2003 (6:35 pm kickoff) so I went.

I don't remember what seat number it was, but I could bring you to the exact location of where I sat.

The atmosphere I thought was amazing. Something I never knew that my hometown, DeKalb, was capable of in any way.

Although I did not know a lot of what was going on, I found myself screaming and jumping for touchdowns and big plays.

We all know what happened during this game. When we won, little did I know how much this was going to mean! I went home very excited, and looked at what other games are left to play this season. I found out that our next game was at Alabama, and that they were supposed to be really good. I don't know why but I was drawn to watch another game, the excitement I think is what drew me there.

So I watched the game at the convo center, and again it was amazing.

From that point on, my first huskie game ever, I never missed another game again. If it was away, I heard it on the radio. If it was at home, I was there.

Now I am co-president of the NIU Red Riot, part of the Huskie Road Crew, one of the biggest NIU fans out there and my entire closet is red.

September 28, 2003 was the biggest life changing experience my entire life... pretty crazy.
