A bunch of us are going and decided to just tailgate then listen to the game instead of spending $100 (for our group) on the game...
I feel kind of guilty. But I really don't want to watch this team this year...

Nothing wrong with that at all, it just means you are not an NIU fan, but it is nothing to feel guilty about.
I'm an NIU fan... above my monitor hangs my diploma...

I just don't feel like the teams worth $20, to see them lose.

I'm just a fair weather fan I guess...

You apparently did need an intervention because you asked the question :-)
While I think most would find it disappointing, you have the right to do it.
It is these kind of fans that piss me off the most because they are the ones that come on here after ever loss saying Fire Novak, Novak is a bum, when more than likely they did not even go to the game or see it. Rather they are vultures just waiting for bad things to happen so they can pounce on it. I have NO PATIENCE for that type of fan (also see cohuskie, rockbottom, niu27).
I was there for every home game in the late 80's early 90's... win or lose... mostly lose.

I've matured as a fan though... some people have not, I guess.

Tell the truth, was the ability to drink without interruption a contributing factor?

We only get 5 or 6 chances a year to see the Huskies play in person (if you only attend home games) after looking forward to this for 9 months. Why pass it up just because the team is struggling?
It's dumb if you're a student and could get in for free but you leave at kickoff to go back home and drink more.

I see nothing wrong with your decision. If you don't want to spend money on a team you feel is not worth it then that is your decision. To be honest if my ticket was 20 dollars I wouldn't go either. But it's free so of course I'm going.. But why spend money on gas, good, beer, etc too?

Go in!! $20 and you can't afford it? Are you employed?
The money goes to a good cause --NIU football.
$20.00 is pretty inexpensive for live entertainment of any kind. If I lived in Illinois I would get to a lot more than the handful of games I attend each year.

If you don't mind being a Fair Weather fan then it is ok. A lot of people let it get to them when they are called a "fair weather" fan. But if it does not get to you, you should do what you want. It is JUST a football game here.

If you don't mind, then what's the problem? Also...if you don't mind it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks.
Do you leave at halftime normally too?
i have no problems with people who don't go into the game if football isn't their "thing." But, it is surprising to see someone who posts on this board not go into watch the game. (Don't take this as a judgement-Its just a surprise)
The pitiful performance of this team has actually stifled my enthusiasm for tailgaiting. I'm in no mood to party, either before or afterward, and so I've limited my gameday experience to the game itself, as long as I can stand it.

Today, I actually brought my 4-year-old son to the game, knowing full well he'd want to leave early. As it turned out, he was able to go home with his mom at the half, so I endured the miserable second half..

Friends called to invite me for beers after the game, but I respectfully declined.

Beer would have undoubtedly made me more melancholy at that point, and who needs that?
I went to the game with a bunch of friends. All my friends left after halftime, so I look around and there's epasnoopy and the same thing had happened to him. I like watching every home game that's just something I like to do.
Yes. It is wrong.
We didn't go in...
Instead we donated our $ to various businesses (bars)in and around the greater DeKalb area and watched the game on tv!!! To tell you the truth, we didn't even really pay much attention to the game but rather to the pool table.
Yes, I can afford the tickets... but the product is poor. Football is a business... some people forget that and think its more than that...
