How do people see the rest of this season going?

I guess i'll start by saying i think were going to lose a random game. I think were going to lose to western, we never win in waldo, and Western's recievers are great.

I think Dan will continue to improve, but our scheme of Dan running (as in designed runs, not scambles when things break down) will really cost us against Clemson. I just dont see their DE's crashing down hard, any QB option type plays are going to cost us against non-mac competition. I also think clemson is going to get 20+ carries with both their backs against us. I just dont see us having the DE's to impose their will and react quickly to a play.

That being said. I think we go into the late 3rd giving clemson hell. I think we win all but one of our Mac games. I also hope / think we beat army this weekend.

I can see us winning the MAC, and going to the MCB again (YAY!). We seem to have a solid class coming in, hopefully we can snag some type of impact DE also before the season is out.

Anyone know how many scholarships we have left? I know the WMU board copies and paste's its recruiting info from rivals / scout over here. Maybe someone can make an alt Screen Name and post the recruiting info over here as well. 04-cheers

We do fine in Waldo when we bring a good team. Look at our record there excluding the Flynn/DeBord yrs. When we bring a winning team to Waldo, we win. Not like the problems WMU has playing in Kelly Shorts. Check the record and see how many winning CMU teams have lost at Waldo....not many at all.
I too, think we can and will win in "Where's Waldo?" I think the BROwNCOws have to play at NIU's homecoming this weekend. Could be the beginning of the end for the swaybacks, especially after NIU lost to Temple. They've (doggie nuts) got to be pissed. Then, the pantywasters have to entertain Gonad U., and if Hoke gets their running game going, well, lights out in Kalamacrapity. All speculation, but it's a nice scenario.03-cloud9
Same as my old expectations.

1) A winning record, 2) be in contention for the MAC Championship, and 3) a bowl invite.

Right now, Central is in a very good position in the West. We need to win both, or at least get a split between the WMU and EMU games(depending on how WMU and EMU do in their remaining West Conf. games) so that we go back to the MAC Championship game.

I would be EXTREMELY happy to go back to the Motor City Bowl again. 02-13-banana

What a great time that was last year. 03-cloud9
Oh, and did I mention that I don't see any MAC team stopping our current offense. Simply too many weapons! If our defense continues to improve, it's lights out for MAC opposition (and that includes the East Division as well).05-mafia
S4L, I have the same expectations I had from the start of the season, I thought there was no reason for our team to be worse than 8-4 or 7-5 at the very least. I agree with you it looks like it may pan out as a 7-5 season which would be OK with me. The MAC game that makes me nervous is EMU, I think their defense does have the potential to slow our offense down. The look very physical and athletic and seem to swarm to the ball with pretty good team speed. I also think with a few breaks and a continuation of that positive attitude that is flowing right now we could run the regular season table, with the MAC Championship game and be the right opponent in the MCB.
We will beat Army, provided we take them seriously. We can't expect them to roll over, like BSU expected us to do last week.

The Clemson game will mirror the NDSU game. I want to come away with this game with no injuries. They know Lefevour runs a lot, and they'll be headhunting.

We'll split Western/Eastern and Kent State/Akron.
We are certainly in the drivers seat and we control our own destiny. However, to be realistic, I take one big win with a grain of salt, as I take one big loss. This team has been playing extremely inconsistent (Kansas –all phases, Toledo – defense, Purdue – defense/offense 1st half, NDSU – all phases, NIU – defense) with the exception of the Ball State game.

I believe we have every bit of potential to win and/or lose every game on the schedule. Every team, including Army and EMU can disrupt our chances to achieving our goals. I really hope we continue to roll and get better, however I'm not overly confident as i was last year. I hope BJ sticks to our strengths and utilizes LeFevour in the passing game. I still have the same outlook, that anything less than 8-4 or 7-5 at worst would be a disappointment, granted all the talent we have on the roster going into the season, along with the players retuning, and with the addition of Antonio Brown 03-woohoo…we certainly should dominate our opponents, except Clemson.

Here is how I think it will shake out:
Army – We should get a Win, however it will be a tough win
Clemson – The two headed monster (Davis & Spiller) will shred our defense, should be Loss, just hope it looks respectable
Kent State – Tough game, kent has the potential to beat us. This could go either way
wmu – Throw the records out, the home team usually wins this one. This could go either way.
emu – The Eagles play us tough and this one could go either way.
Akron – They look like they are playing better as the season continues, again, this could go either way.

The only games I’m most concerned with is obviously the two in-state games vs. wmu and emu. If we at least win one, we have a good chance of going to the MAC Championship game.

I just dont see how you think we should dominate anyone. I do agree that we can win / lose every game on this schedule. Except for clemson most likely.

I was at the game Sat against BSU and we dominated BSU in virtually all aspects of the game. We were better conditioned, better coached, and made BSU look as though they didn't belong on the same field as us. Our offense was unbelievable and Jones called off the dogs early in the 4th quarter. He could have easily put another 150 yds and 14 points on the board if he wanted to Spurrier poor Brady Hoke. This offense started 6 guys who never started a game before this season:
Miller - Redshirt Freshman
Watt - True Freshman
Wojt - Redshirt Jr
Bradley - True Freshman
Brown - True Freshman
Hoskins - Redshirt Jr

These guys are finally learning the offense and what it takes to play Div 1 football. The future of CMU's offense is brighter than ever!
I recently learned from a Ball State fan (no pun intended), that CMU brought four huge cool mist fans (two for the offensive bench and two for the defensive bench), while Ball U used just standard fans, thus not allowing their players to properly cool down. He wasn't offering that as an excuse, but rather poor organization by the Cardinal support staff (ultimately a poor reflection on the coaching staff).

S4L...I saw CMU go from the bottom to the top, however it didn't happen overnight. When Kelly arrived, there was allot of changing that was definitely NEEDED. He had a blueprint and had to excavate and lay a solid foundation. He redshirted allot of players when they 1st arrived to be able to build a program for the future that won multiple championships. It's been said 100 times, BJ doesn't have to change the culture, re-build, he's got a damn cupboard filled with enough talent to repeat.

No program who was in as bad shape as we were goes from zero to hero in one season. Typically they go in progressions. In 2004 I saw CMU go from learning to not quit and learn to finish games, even though the opponent scored at will. In 2005, I saw a team that made games competitive, we let other teams know scheduling us was no walk in the park and we were a force to be reckoned with. In 2006, the next progression was to win a Championship and rightfully so, we did. The next progression in a program is to DOMINATE. Just like Marshall, Miami (OH), NIU, Bowling Green and Toledo did a few years ago. Now, because of the coaching change, new playbook , terminology, schemes, which I know now, somewhat inhibits that to happen (note: good news is it appears BJ is getting this team back on track), however because of the talent we have...there is no reason why we shouldn't DOMINATE. But like I said, what will keep this team from being DOMINANT is preparation and scheme.

Right now, I'm being cautiously optomistic. I want to win really bad, however if we lay an egg...I'm not going to say I didn't see it coming.

Chipfb,
Please show me any other Div 1A team with at least 3 true freshmen starting on offense. If there are any I think they are experiencing many growing pains. Add the 3 true freshmen with 3 other new starters and it is easy to see why there have been some growing pains. They may be some hiccups in the road due to inconsistancies from young players but the future is very very bright for our offense. I also know that the staff is working hard on recruiting to help our defense to continue its improvement. Jones is about building a program and not about making it to the top so he can move on. Believe me, this guy is young and will make some mistakes but he is passionate and he knows what he is doing. That is why I support him.

Arro...would you do us all a favor and go back to your board! We already know about your close relationship you have with the coaching staff :kneelsucka::uberbow::secret::rolltide:. It's evident your need to defend them on any post to allow you access into the locker room and practice. Do they have you monitoring these boards too? I think you're a sad CMU fan and you care more about getting inside access and sucking up to BJ and the coaching staff, more than your concern about this team. How about starting a freshman QB (LeFevour), sophomore RB (Sneed), freshman RB (Archer), freshman WR (Anderson), freshman TE (Williams), sophomore OL (Hartline), all freshman secondary (Gordy, Fraser, Hissong, Edwards and West), freshman DE (Knight & Zombo), sophomore DT (Droscha & Ekdahl), freshman LB (Brazzel), sophomore LB (Lapsley) and sophomore K (Albreski)? Get your spin sh__ out of here that we are young in 2007. Yes we are, but so were we last year and you know what happened? WE WON THE DAMN MAC AND A BOWL GAME!!! WITHOUT A HEAD COACH. So please, spare us your comments about your Man Crush BJ. Enough already. 03-puke

Geez, I'm sorry things are going well for our team. I guess you really do want our team and Jones to fail this year. Very sad! 03-banghead

Arro...go back to scout.com. The censorship board or the board that if your don't agree with the tom mehl, BJ's buddy, you get banned and threads are deleted to save BJ's reputation. I'de personally like to keep this board away from pissing matches and you already have multiple forums you defend BJ, mlive (hipchip) and scout (arrohead). Please...I want this thread to stay on topic, and saying things like, "I would like CMU and Jones to fail is complete asinine.

We just gave our best offenseive performance EVER since joining the MAC with a very young team and you are are being a big eeyore! Smile once in a while, you might like it.
I dont get this "Were Young" bull****. Jones is chosing to start Bradly. He did not HAVE to start him. Poblah, Brooks, tons of other players could be taking his spot. He could of allowed Sam Williams to stay at TE and rotate watts in. He is choosing to start Freshman, every year were starting freshman, it isnt a reason to get blown out by teams.

The bottom line is that jones and banks and the others were trying to make these players fit their system, it didnt work, they need to build their system to the personal they have. Hopefully from this point forward they will. I'm not going to constantly rag this staff for the way they started. Realisticly we should have expected some growing pains, but i think this staff increased them by trying to change something that did not need to be changed, and ragging on the players for not performing, and them telling them he wishes he was back at WVU competing for a title. He made a mistake, and if he and this staff is learning from it... Great...

Everyone is now better off for the rest of the season, and seasons to come. But i did not then, or now, by the bull**** that it was our players that were / are the problem.

Not to mention, look at ANY GREAT COACH, they always take the blame, Jones just shifted the **** onto the team early on. The jury is still out on him, we'll see where we stand at the end of the next two - three seasons.
Arro, being a total brown nose suck-up is just as bad as being a narc or snitch. You are the quintessentail brown nose, it is seems as if BJ himself is feeding you info to spin. You really are not doing him any favors, with your constant one-sided approach. You, BW, and company have basically ruined the CI board, damaged the m-live board by assaulting or having folks censored that disagree with you on the precept that Butch Jones is the GREATEST football since Urban Meyer or maybe even Knute Rockne. He made a turn around, and I think, C-4 Life had a post that is probably pretty accurate. BJ realized maybe because of these boards that he seems to monitor the heck out of or Heeke told him to wise up, and he had a very good meeting with the team, where souls were bared and opinions exchanged and so far it has worked. I applaud him for that , that is called learning. It was not as easy as should have been, but became necessary since the effort to cover, deny and white wash the whole ugly mess that was happening did not work.
Now I am sure you, TM and others know the truth and I know that you will put out a different spin or call me a liar or a negative fan, whatever. Now if you want to post here, try to be a bit more open to others opinions and a little less fanatical in your spin. Thanks for reading, please fully engage your brain before responding.

Wow...I'm done after this post with you arro...you're such a damn sock puppet, it makes me sick 03-puke.

You clearly did not read what I've been posting. You don't post about anything logical. All you post about are things to lesson the blow if we lose, such as, "wow look at the youth we have" and then you follow it up with, "isn't the coaching staff great?". You're only here to defend the coaching staff. Like I said, I will give credit where credit is due. I gave kudos to BJ and the staff for the Ball State game. What the hell do you want from CMU fans to do, say BJ is God? Like I said, you're not here to support your team more than you are here (or should I say in Mt. Pleasant) to have your field pass renewed or given access to interact with the coaches. You're an embarrassment.
