what a sorry sports town the city of cleveland must be. they want to crucify lebron james because he wore a yankees cap to the yankees v indians game the other night.

some of the things i've heard are:

-why on earth would he wear a yankees cap to the jake??

-he's childish, selfish and immature for doing that!!!

-the fans of cleveland that support him have every right to be pissed!!! they pay his salary!!!

uuuuhhhh......

to point #1, he may be wearing a yankees hat because he's a yankees fan. just a guess. to point number two, there is nothing more childish than throwing a fit that someone doesn't like the same baseball team that you do. to point number three, the cavaliers are an asset to the cleveland economy, not a drain. he works for the cavaliers, not the city of cleveland, and he'd make that money whether the fans came to the games or not.

there was an episode of seinfeld where elaine wore an orioles cap to a yankees game, and was asked to take it off. it was an entertaining episode because it was so damn silly. this is even sillier, and it's real life.

is the city of cleveland planning on passing an ordinance saying that figherfighters, police officers, public school teachers, and any other city employee are required to support the indians?? afterall, the city pays their salary, so therefore they owe it ot the city to support the baseball team and not cheer for anyone else.

i don't really understand this ownership mentality that fans have. they buy a ticket, and think the players owe them something. i hate the drunk guy that yells for the whole game about how much the players suck...but at least i get that. this i don't get at all. the city of cleveland thinks they have the right to be so fickle that they can ***** and moan about what baseball teams lebron james is and isn't allowed to cheer for. that's just all kinds of stupid.

It wasn't the smartest thing a person could do. After all, he plays for a Cleveland team and he grew up in the area.

I really don't blame them for giving him a dose of it. You can't let him get off scot free. You gotta give him some stuff. They are a lot more east coasty in-your-face, and a whole lot less midwest apple pie friendly up there.

When was the last time there was a big fight after a St. X vs Elder game? Or a UC vs. XU game for that matter. How about never.

Outside of that I agree with you.

giving him grief and assassinating his character are two different things. cleveland fans are doing the latter.
Brew, I think he could have chosen a Cavs hat and avoided all of this. I don't blame Cleveland fans for wondering what Lebron is thiking. Don't let a few maniacs get under your skin.
I think Lebron is an idiot for wearing that... he had to know their reaction would not be kind. Cleveland fans may be overreacting, but I'm pretty sure if the tables were turned the Cincinnati fans would be ticked as well.

Cincinnati is "southern style" when it comes to things like that. We are a lot closer to the south than we think. In many ways that is a good thing.

I agree...very poor decision on his part...
How does a kid growing in Akron, during a period of time mid 90's to present day when the Indians have been very good, root for the Yankees. It is not as though the Indians have been bad. Ever since the Jake was built the Indians have been very good.
Fly, look around Cincinnati. You see all manner of gear from other teams. I'm a homer, but i know lots of folks who for no reason whatsoever embrace other teams.

They were talking about it on ESPN yesterday, seems Lebron grew up a Yankees, Bulls, and Cowboys fan.

Can you say Frontrunner?
