17 turnovers, 5 take aways.....

17 - 5 = -12... in 5 games

thats 3.4 turnovers a game, against nothing special.

if you take away the 5 turnovers in our favor, we still give up 2.4 a game...
Little doubt the stats are critical and help "explain" 1-4 record.

It's a stat traditionally opposite of Novak coached teams - especially recent years.

Next question: WHY are we making those mistakes repeatedly or unable to force TOs?

Can it mostly be "explained" as youth?

It's also noteworthy some heavy hitters in the bottom forty including USC & Wisky plus BYU, Wyoming, Fresno etc.

we have 6 takeaways
While our record with turnovers speaks volumes about our struggles, one needs to separate the TO's and figure out which ones we can truly be held responsible for. I know that sounds like bull, but think about it. The ability to recover a fumble is not a skill. No one knows how that thing will bounce. The ability to hang on to the ball and avoid fumbling is a skill, though some hits are going to knock the ball out no matter what.

Interceptions are usually somebody's fault. Once in a while, you may get legitimate miscommunication where the WR sees one thing and the QB sees another and it leads to a turnover, but usually one of them has messed up something.

I guess my point is, not all turnovers are created equally. When you do it as exotically as we have, though, you can draw some pretty serious conclusions.
Poor punt coverage vs Iowa a killer after controlling field position first 20 minutes.

Following two lazy , ill advised passes & INTs returned for TDs by opponents were brutal.

The faliure to cover two onside kicks was devastating.

Successive 15 yard penalties vs EMU to move Nendick beyond reasonable range for game winner were inexcuseable.

Coughing up the football at CMU goal line and botched FG are two more.

We have developed a pattern for shooting ourselves in the D _ _ K.

In the DUCK? Why was that filtered?

DogFan, can you explain this?
90,

very funny.

I filtered myself and it felt rather good.
"I" "C" said the blind man.
In other words - or numbers- it's not just one thing -like inopportune TOs or penalties - it's most everything.

No, the filtered word was not DUCK. Cybes is actually an amateur sleuth and he was referring to the slang word for a cop or detective, or "dick" (as in private dick). Here's what happened. Joe could not figure out what's wrong with this team so he hired a dick to do some investigating. Unfortunately, we cannot do anything right this year, so when Joe told Dan Nicholson to get into the shotgun, he pulled out a real one and misfired (gee, there's a rarity) and shot the dick on the sidelines. Dan felt bad and rushed over to the sidelines, but only managed to trip over the dick. That's why we lost the game. Dan kept tripping over the dick throughout the entire game.
Maybe for the Temple game, Joe should bring a donkey on the sidelines. It would be a lot less embarrassing to trip over an ass.
now THAT is hysterical and creative.

maybe he tripped over Nendick's ego?
Nicholson actually made some good throws in the past game. The announcers mentioned some of the 'dart' passes that Dan made. It seems he makes these throws early in the game and then just starts to fade away and toss turnovers as the game goes on. Morris didn't look any better at games end but at least Joe did the right thing and gave Ryan some experience. I won't even start to discuss Britt's awful catching abilities and the other fumbles that happened.

Can these guys somehow get their $H!t together????
just think, we could easily be 4-1, maybe even 5-0 if it weren't for some bonehead mistakes

That's true! And if CMU did not score TDs the first five times they touched the ball, NIU would have won 10-0.

Years ago Bobby Douglas used to throw dart passes for the Chicago Bears but it did not make him a good QB.

Thank you!!! 03-lmfao
The reason is, in four of those games, the other team had more points on the board when time ran out.
