Did EMU shorten the playbook against Howard? I didn't see the entire game but from what I saw they kept the play calling very basic. I'm sure the Vandy scouts were in attendance so no need in showing them too much if it's not needed.

In my opinion, EMU needs to do a better job of getting Gage involved. He only has 2 receptions and 0 carries so far. 2 touches in 4 games is not enough for a playmaker. I'd still like to see them occasionally put Gage in at QB and slide Schmitt out to the slot just to keep the defense guessing. Give Gage the run/pass option.

Also still waiting to see the double pass (remember MSU last year?). I'm sure the staff is saving it for a special occasion.

Hey they went down field twice that makes 3 times this year.

Why dont you keep your smartass remarks to your beloved mdead boys!...you`ll be run out of here faster than you think...
Because I don't want to. And because it is true they only have thrown passes longer than 10 yards about 5 or 6 times the whole season! Even the announcer know it. You can't win games if you need 6 yards and throw for 3!

EagleWarrior, you're established. You also know Superfan is established. I'm rcenigma from MDead, I'm established. There's no need for this in a well-moderated forum.

It's better if you reserve your offense for the real trolls. Even then, they'll be taken care of anyway. HuskieNation is a good mod, so relax.

Now, back to the topic: Offense.

I'm just hoping EMU can stay healthy for the remaining games. It's an unpredictable year in college football and I'd like to see EMU throw in a shocker or two. Besides, what if we finally open up our options on O?
By opening up options do you mean letting the QB run?

In a nutshell, I liked what we did at N. Illinois. Longer passes, clever runs, and more players involved.

On the flipside, the thing I hate about the stretch offense is the limits on people that can effectively block. TEs are under-utilized and good OLs can get overwhelmed.

I'm not a fan of the spread offense at all - or should I say that I'm not a fan of the way EMU runs it. I don't know what the problem is but it doesn't seem to do what it is purported to do - namely spreading out the defense with the pass to set up an effective running game. When was the last time, really, we had a decent game rushing the ball? We're averaging about 260 yards of offense per game - about 100 on the ground and 160 through the air. Sorry but that does NOT sound like a high powered and effective offense to me.

Please, anyone, enlighten me. What's the problem? Is it the players not fitting the system or the coaches not teaching it effectively? Whatever the case may be, it's clear that our defense is the one component of the team keeping us in games. I am seriously searching for answers concerning the offensive woes and lack of real productivity.

In fact, our offensive production ranks 10th out of the 13 teams in the Mid-American Conference. Tenth! The only teams lower than us are Akron, Bowling Green and Temple - in that order. I suspect we will drop significantly after today's game against Michigan.

I take all of this back. Checking ESPN's website more closely (I was looking at the MAC ranking according to rushing yards per game (RYPG) stat) EMU's offense ranks dead last in the MAC for yards per game. Dead frickin' last.
