Florida Atlantic defeats Minnesota 42-39 today

Troy dismantled Oklahoma State 41-23 last night on ESPN
The first one might be more of Minnesota making this statement: "We suck!"

A good win for 2 non-bcs schools regardless.
Sun Belt can score some points. They have issues like the MAC on defense, but on offense Sun Belt can lit it up.

La-Lafayette lost to MCneese State today. Ohio loss was a crushing loss for them and I bet they had a carry over. Not easy for a team to come back after fumbling the game away on the 2 yard line with under a minute left in the prior game. Northern Illinois probably had a similar letdown today too.

The Minnesota stadium was E-M-P-T-Y.
How the heck did Florida Atlantic get two BCS teams to play in their crib? They play in a 50-year-old high school stadium that's going to be torn down as soon as FAU's new stadium is done.
The game was in Fla. Minn game was in Robbie stadium
It's pretty simple when teams want to recruit or do recruit in that area!!
Troys always been a solid school to me, I always had a spot for them. Our conference shoulda UM twice this year..
The SBC got better when they became a regional conference.

It's a model that works.

Congrats to them for seeing some rewards.

The MAC should be proud of what it is. However, it does need to learn to recruit other parts of the country.
The SBC has a few years to gel now and conference play is improving recruiting.

I suspect the SBC will take another big step up with the addition of WKU in 09'. It will add depth to the league and ensure each school plays 4 conference games at home.

Check out the Sags:

1 PAC-10 81.27
2 SOUTHEASTERN 80.74
3 BIG EAST 78.18
4 BIG 12 76.48
5 BIG TEN 75.44
6 ATLANTIC COAST 74.77
7 MOUNTAIN WEST 71.64
8 WESTERN ATHLETIC 63.60
9 MID-AMERICAN 63.17 (w/o Temple)
10 CONFERENCE USA 62.83
11 SUN BELT 59.00 (with WKU)

The SBC is rapidly catching up to C-DOA and the MAC is now rated better than CUSA. Maybe its CUSA who should contemplate dropping the bottom feeders.

Leaving out Temple? Nice try.

As to recruiting I like this comment by the SBC Commish:

"There are five great recruiting areas in this country: Southern California, that coal-steel belt through Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, Louisiana, Texas and South Florida," Waters said. "We've got three of those in our league, so we may not get the blue-chipper that's going to LSU, but there's a bunch of other athletes in Louisiana. Same thing in Florida.
Temple is in the MAC so for now they should be counted in our numbers just like CUSA has to count Marshall's. MAC needs to dropped Eastern Michigan, add Temple hoops and then add Navy and Army football. That keeps the MAC at 12 in hoops and 14 in football with schools that put butts in the seats and are attractive on TV.

And WKU only is playing 4 games vs. Sun Belt teams and still playing a few I-AA and lower opponents. Its a transition year and they are not technically part of the conference.

Are you counting Bowling Green and Ball St. in those "lower opponents"? 05-stirthepot

But seriously you are correct, there is no way you should lump WKU in with the Sunbelt just yet.

Sadly, Jeff Sagarin is handling this the same way he handled Temple. As soon as Temple was transitioning into the MAC, he began including them in the calculation of MAC strength.

I, unlikely many here, supported bringing Temple in. But obviously including Temple in the MAC ranking wasn't helpful. This is the first year they should have been included, in my humble opinion.
Agree, completely, SF.

Temple was not part of MAC FB last year and neither should WKU be counted this year for SBC.

I agree with you also on admitting Temple.

In 5 years you (and I hope me) will be considered by members of this board for the foresight to see the great promise Temple has.

TU has much more potential then the 'small market' (if they are even 'markets') schools like EMU, BG, and KSU.

Temple has already generated a lot of excitement for the MAC and some of their games (30K vs. Navy and their barnburner vs. UConn) have already paid off for the MAC.

Temple will have a sellout for their game vs. Penn State at the Linc in early Nov.

I assume TU will set the MAC single season home attendance record.

This is impressive for a team some posters considered 'dead wood' for the conference.

Temple will schedule at home rival Villanova, UConn, Army, Navy, etc. and will draw well into the future.
