Hi Everyone - I am new to the board and have heard there is a lot of good info on here.

I was wondering why NIU couldn't have help more tickets for the Iowa game. A friend of mine is at Iowa and was shocked we gave up some many tickets so early.

Does anyone know if they are looking to hold at least 50% of tickets for the first 2-3 weeks instead of giving everything to a Wisky or whoever else we play there?
Welcome to the board.

We didn't give any tickets away. We sold them...just so happens Iowa fans bought them. Two points 1. Our fans were too slow and didn't think it would sell out. Many called to complain, but it was too late. Get on the ball next time. 2. There are really only two gripes you could have about this: A- they sold a large group ticket block to an Iowa group, which could have perhaps been prevented, and B-that they didn't hold onto more tickets for students. Both gripes are debatable.

You know what dyno, I think we gave them away despite what we hear from the NIU ticket office. The seating pattern was way too structured with a core of red surrounded by nearly 100% Iowa. That was not a seating arrangement from a random ticket sale, it definitely smelled of an allocation.

From the way that seating arrangement was, it was clear to me a higher priority was put on selling out the event than getting NIU fans in. Not saying I agree or disagree with that, but it appears thats what happened.

From what I read we immediately gave Iowa 40,000 tickets - that seems really crazy. I understand after 2 weeks or so but at lease give NIU fans a chance to get tickets.
Maybe we didn't give them away, maybe it was negotiated that way from the beginning. Who knows.

I know we gave them 30,000 and we kept 27,000 initially. Then the rest went to Bears season ticket holders. But of course, Iowa fans could have easily bought tickets through NIU's ticket office.
key to being guaranteed tickets? buy them the day they go on sale!

This is a very good and very interesting point. It could have already been decided by the two schools that Iowa would be getting part of NIU's ticket allotment. Assuming the schools split the revenue down the middle, it should not concern NIU except for the enmity of its fans (which can have a finacial impact down the road).
I only had three issues with the way the game was handled...(1) the initial ticket split went down the 50 yard lines. I think NIU's tickets should have been between the 30's on both sides of the field. (2) It should have been harder (with more financial gain for NIU) for Iowa fans to buy tickets from our allotment. (3) There should have been a parking area reserved for NIU and they should have informed NIU fans of the real parking lot opening time.

For real! There's no worse feeling than missing out due to your own inaction.

Well the thought of buying them immediately is great if you went to NIU the last 3 years - any other time and you could walk up for NIU tickets.

NIU should have done a much better job getting the workd out that tickets needed to be bought immediately 99% of NIU fans figured they could buy tickets 2 weeks before teh game and be fine.
It's time NIU fans learn to get tickets as soon as they are available. How many times do you think Iowa had to tell 40,000 of their fans to buy tickets? Games like this will hopefully teach Huskie fans a lesson.

Well, the lesson should be learned now. Our fans need to get on the stick. Times have changed.
I think of this as a blessing in disguise.

Next time NIU fans will be ready to go on day one.

That should help create more mania and demand for tixs for both schools, NIU and the opponenet.

It seems this year at Soldier Field and The Linc (PSU @ Temple) that the goal was to ensure that the house was sold out and the game a financial windfall.

Next time it will be a 50-50 split on attendees.

What should be VERY interesting is how Toledo handles their game in '09 at Cleveland Stadium vs. OSU.

Toledo controls MOST of the tickets, unlike the NIU/Iowa game situation.

I doubt Toledo is going to sit back and watch OSU fans grab 40K+ seats.

I agree that they have - however if NIU wants to get the old alumni back they need to do a better job of getting NIU fans tickets and getting the word out.

Yes, but the non diehard Toledo fans will be there wearing scarlet and gray.
