Did anybody hear any of Novak's postgame comments? What kind of crap did he throw out there?
I don't know, but I think he's got some explaining to do to the Huskie faithful...

Coach Novak was incredibly gracious with the post game interview. Hard to imagine doing an interview after a disappointing loss like that but he blamed the entire team beginning with himself. VEry stand-upish of him.
He was mad about the two pick six by Dan but who wouldn't.
Any mention of that stupid-ass kick return thing they did which cost us a chance at a FG? Or why they had nobody where the onside kick went?
Nope, just talking about the loss should start with him.
Same old stuff.
Whatever. I want my money back. I didn't receive my world-class experience.
If the season plays out the way I think it will. Joe will probably calls it quits after this year. We'll lose to Wisconsin, and probably Navy. I also see us losing at least 2 MAC games. I predict 6-7 losses for the season. It will be a long and painful year.
We need world class athletes in order to get a world class experience.

Correct. So our world-class AD better find a world-class replacement for Novak.

Yeah, it's always nice to have the head coach blame the entire team!

He should do that in the locker room - not in a post game interview (Note: I'm basing this post solely on what is posted above, as I didn't hear the interview firsthand.)
Biggest Hire Phillips will ever have at NIU.
I agree it's time for a change, but lets now forget who brought the expectations up so high. Smokin Joe will right the ship. We just just played like garbage tonight.

The ship's sinking, and it's his fault.

we had people where the kick went they blocked the guy who was in teh air going for it and he couldnt get it.
I'm more puzzled by the decision to go for first down which ended the drive with Anderson's fumble rather than a gimme three.

I do understand the temptation to put a game outta reach and think if you cannot make a few yards rushing then you have little confidence building either. Yet the decision seemed so unNovak like NOT to take the three.

BTW: I did overhear another old buzzard like cybes from SIU saying the same thing I did while exiting the stadium.

From where the ball was spotted a first down may or may not have been marked. Anyone else have a good recall & view of the drive killing play?
It wasn't a few yards. Radio said it was about the length of the football and that it appeared that Anderson may have had a first down but was shoved back and fumbled before the play was whistled over. Sideline guy said he was standing even with the play and that Anderson did reach the fifteen before being stripped of the ball.
You know what? You try and do Joe's job and see how you would enjoy hearing all of the bitching and moaning. Joe showed alot of class when interviewed at half-time by saying that they really needed to focus on the second half and that he wasn't taking the game lightly. He didn't give up. I think the players and other coaches should shoulder alot the blame because they just plain screwed up. But they are young adults so let's not trash their lives as they did provide us a very exciting game. We lost.....move on!

NIU has built up a very good program. NIU is Chicago's football team. This will strengthen the players resolve even more so going into the first MAC game of the season. Now if Nicholson pulls the same crap next week then somebody ought to pay him a visit and change the air in his head.

Yep and you will not get that with a regional recruiting philosophy. Yeah I know it cost money but as Dr. Jim said in his interview you must invest in your infrastructure. Well athletes are part of that infrastructure and you have to go everywhere to get them.
While I think it's reasonable to question going for that 4th down, let's remember: we gave up a touchdown at the end of the game and that kid missed the XP. Really, we shouldn't have been in position for that "gimme" to even really matter. At the time, a field goal puts you up 13. Well, for all intents and purposes, 13 is not much better than 10. I know it turned out that it would have been, but one normally assumes that XP's are "gimmes". His mindset was that if you get the one yard (and we had been able to move them around pretty much at will) you put the game away and maybe even tack on another 7.

It was a moment of gambling, going for the win and losing. It was disappointing, and maybe not the right move. However, I'll take that over the long "Gee, I hope we can hold 'em" suck off the Kevorkian pipe that the last 3 minutes of the game ended up being. The moment we started playing not to lose and hoping the clock would run out before they scored was when the game got away from us. We dominated it up to that point.
