well guys this loss is gonna kill us with fan support expect a crowd like CMU last year if not smaller...
The fan support will be bad unless we do something drastic, and it is deserved.
At this point I honestly don't feel like wasting any more time and money on this team. Much less my voice that I lose every week..

i cant agree with you more but yet, i still have to go i cant sit at my place knowing there is an NIU home game going on and im not there, but i will say i am not going to ANY NIU away games
Losing is one thing but to play poorly and lose is unacceptable..
That makes it final, I will be at Voodoo fest in Louisiana and NOT at Toledo.
Student support will weaken..It may come down to us old timers being the only fans left at the last home game this year. Back to the pre Novak years

What a pity that we have not been able to upgrade our recruiting from the success of the 2003 team.

But they didn't play that poorly! With the exception of the interceptions and the botched onside kick coverage we outplayed them badly. The defense played well enough to win this game. They were not responsible for 14 of the 34 points at all and another 7 came on a deflected pass. The defense played well enough to give us a 31-13 win.

And, oh yes, fans who turn their backs on a struggling team are not really fans. I know, I have been a Cubs' fan for 47 years! You are not a fan of a team because of their won-lost record.

Although I somewhat agree with you, giving up 4/5 fourth down conversions or whatever it was is unacceptable and embarrassing, especially when it is against a 1-AA team.

I don't totally disagree. But I think there was a certain amount of (bad) luck involved in all those 4th down conversions. And SIU is a very good I-AA team, better than many I-A teams. But it still hurts that we gave this one away completely.
"Embarrasing" is the key word. This is the problem with playing I-AA schools. You lose and everyone mocks you. I'm definitely not looking forward to going into work and having to listen to the crap I'm going to take. Losing to Iowa is expected, and although we never challenged, we only lost by 13 points. Losing to SIU makes a mockery of us. Only hardcore fans remember NIU's 2003 wins. What was the last big OOC win for us?? I can't even remember - I'm going to have to look it up.

I've been a Cub fan for over 40 years (and an NIU fan for 20) and every season they lose, I say why do I watch these guys. I could have spent my time doing something else. And I have my kids doing the same thing I did as a kid. I just end up depressed with a headache. I can't stand watching 2 teams that do that to me. If I root for the Yankees and USC, maybe the Cubs and NIU would start winning.

How can you say that the play was not poor. What game were you watching? Joe's post game comments so much as admitted that both the players and the coaches failed.

It will be a long year for this team. Joe's biggest task is keeping morale high just ahead of correcting the mistakes.

That would be almost as good!
I'd say 10 grand next week against EMU...11 o'clock start was going to hurt attendance already, so now it's going in the gutter.

It really kills me too. I can't stand it, and given my kids fall sports schedule I won't be able to go to any games until late Oct/early Nov, this may be the first year since 1986 that I don't go to a game. They definitely aren't worth $20 a ticket - it costs $100 just for my family to walk in the stadium, before we spend a penny on food or souvenirs. I know it is cheaper than the NFL and major programs - but I know major programs, and NIU, sir, is not a major program.

No you won't. 03-wink

You are a fan of these teams because that's who you are. I got fed up with the Cubs and Dusty Baker last year. I was going to become a Dodger fan. I listened to one Dodger game on the MLB website. That's as far as that went. Then I was going to be a fan of the Iowa Cubs. I listened to one of their games on the internet. That's as far as that went. I went back to the Cubbies because that's who I am. I am a Cubs' fan because my father and grandfather were Cubs' fans before me. Living in St. Louis I get asked all the time how I can be a fan of a team that never wins. I just say, "It's who I am and I am very satisfied being a Cubs' fan."

I'm a Huskie fan because that's where I went to college. I have a daughter who is a junior in HS. I suppose I might root for whatever school she ends up going to since that school will be getting a major chunk of my life savings but I'll always be an NIU fan. In fact, even though she can have her pick of colleges (she has a 4.0 going now), she is strongly considering NIU.
We were HUskie fans in the 90's-we can survive anything. We'll get through this, crying on our beer-literally for most of us.

I don't know if we can. It's like being poor and not knowing it - it's not so bad because you don't realize everything you don't have. Once you do it is a lot worse. 2003 gave us a taste of the good life, and I don't think many/any here want to relinquish it, as modestly good as it was.
