How do we fix this? Nicholson sucks, Morris is a walk on QB for a reason, and none of the freshman are ready. What a joke, ugh, but the question is what do we do?

If your asking me, it's a young team that will all be back, so you put the freshman that you think is the best guy at QB and take your lumps with a 4-8 season or whatever, hoping that QB is ready next year when all these juniors are seniors.

All I can say is Nicholson should not see the field again unless there are a lot of injuries, becuase if he can lose a game to a 1-AA team thanks mainly to himself, what happens in league play? It' s going to be a longgggggggg year this year, I just hope we put one of the freshman at QB and give ourselves a chance at a good 2008.
Man.....I can't disagree.

Up 31-14 with the ball at midfield in the 4th quater. The one thing you can't do is throw a pick 6. And he did it.
Yeah, I thought after the game our program is screwed long term, and that was an overreaction obviously. BUT we are screwed for 2007, unless we assume a true freshman can lead us at QB, which I don't know. This reminds me of Brasic/Juice at Illinois last year, and I hope we do what Illinois did and go to the freshman and take our lumps in hopes of a good next season. I think it's going to work out for Illinois, and with as good as our juniors are, it very well could for us.
move Britt back to QB!!!!

He's a 4th year junior and an NFL prospect that hasn't played QB in 4 years. What good would that do?

So can Grady and Harnish, and they are freshman and not our best WR's.
Let's not get carried away. Nicholson will learn. He's really only started a handfull of games and he played very well down the stretch in 2005, leading us to a 3-game winning streak, including a win in Toledo, and a division title. He's not going to be another Haldi but he'll get better.

Can he get worse?
Maybe we can beg Billy Lowe to come back???? (If he hasn't played anywhere else yet could he play for us right away??!!) I'm only half-joking.

LOL......pass the crackpipe. He now has 13 career TD's and 14 INT's, a 3-4 record as a starter, a completion percentage under 55, and he just gave away a win by himself to a 1-AA team. He's a 4th year junior too, and has no accuracy and couldn't read a defense if it were a Dr. Seuss book. He's trash, I can't believe it but the coaches were right starting Horvath over him.

Well, actually, yes. Dan Nicholson actually looked quite good for most of the game. Now, I am fully aware that his ghastly mistakes completely erased any positive aspect of his performance. But these are correctable errors. He will improve.

I hope you are right but this looks like the Horvath nightmare all over again. He has played enough to not make the mistakes he is making. IMO

In theory they are correctable errors, but I doubt he'll correct them. He stares down receivers way too much and has for a long time. Even on the TD to Anderson I was shocked it wasn't picked because he stared him down for a good three seconds before throwing the ball.

WRONG. Horvath at least had a record of completing a high percentage of his passes, which Danny does not. And Dan is a 4th year junior who is making mistakes on READS, not throws. Bad throws can be fixed through mechanics, being dumb and making the wrong reads like Danny does every game he plays can't be fixed. There is no cure for being an idiot.
Observations from being at tonight's game
(1) Pull the plug on the Dan Nicholson experiment. He makes poor decisions and does not look past his primary receiver. He also overthrew a wide open Brit Davis that would have been a TD. He cost us two tds tonight. He has had enough time at QB to prove his worth.
How can a 1AA team have so much better QB than us? SIU's QB was great.

(2) Our DB's cannot play pass coverage. Year after year after year...

(3) Our back uncovered a receiver on the one TD by playing a run. Touchdown SIU

(4) One DB I forget the number was totally lost on coverage. He had no clue as to where the ball and receiver were.
Good thing the pass was overthrown or that was another TD

(5) How in the hell can you let a team complete that many 4th down conversions!!!! No pass rush gave the SIU QB too much time

(6) Our run blocking improved in the second half but could not make the big plays when needed.

(7) Based on what I saw I question how good our recruiting has been the last two years. The experts may be right in grading our last two recruiting classes as poor.
We looked to be unprepared and poorly coached tonight. It will be a long year folks. Suck it up because we may not win 4 games this year.
We all know see (including myself) why Horvath was the started last year. Nicholson' can't be the starter.

He cost us 3 td's by himself tonight. The 2 pick 6's, and missing Britt who was wide open.

It's sad that he was better. He also got very lucky. He threw 2 up in the air when getting sacked that should have been intercepted. And the 2nd to last td was thrown to the underneath guy and he tipped it to a wideopen TE. But he did come up with some big plays.
I wonder where Nicholson went bad. He did look good in 05, but I think we need to write off this year. WHat do we do next year?
I agree that he made a lot of big mistakes, the pick-six plays and the overthrow of a wide open Britt Davis in the end zone were big. On the bright side, he did look poised in the pocket and he did make plays, though. I wouldn't get too carried away and say bench him; he's definitely the best quarterback on the team right now. That being said, he's not nearly as good as Haldi was, or Horvath his junior year...but that is a high standard to maintain.

Let's not put all the blame on Nicholson, though. The defense was horrible, and gave up play after play in the secondary...this one was reminiscent of the championship vs. Akron.
