Kalamazoo Gazette column has a lot of interesting info about how increasingly difficult it is for the MAC to schedule, make financial ends meet, and count on the BC$ Big 10. The talk of a 9-game MAC season is also surfacing again.

The article obviously leans toward WMU's POV, but a lot of it is relevant for the entire MAC.

Personally, I don't think the solution lies with a 9 game schedule.

The MAC should build from within. So far this Temple experiment has been a total flop. The MAC GOTW is not shown in PA except on 1 Philly staion and because of this I don't feel like they are pulling their weight.

The MAC could use an overhaul by realigning the divisions and renaming itself the MAC-12 conference.

MAC-12 Central Division
Northen Ill.
Ball State
MU
Bowling Green
Ohio
Eastern Mich.

MAC-12 Costal Division
Buffalo
Akron
Toledo
Kent St.
Central Mich.
Western Mich.

This would break the schools up better with each division including members from 3 to 4 different states plus make for the possiblity of Toledo-BG and EMU-WMU football championship games.

Having 5 of the 6 Ohio MAC shools in the same division is a stupid setup. The ACC has 2 North Carolina schools in 1 division and 2 in the other so I see no reason why the MAC can't split up the Ohio schools.
Quote:The possibility of nine league games has been discussed and, according to Beauregard, will be a topic again at AD meetings next month.

Temple and Miami are the only schools opposed to an expanded league schedule because both have advantages their MAC brethren lack. For Temple, it's a chance to develop East Coast rivalries. For Miami, it's a home-and-home yearly series with Cincinnati.

Ohio also has a series with Marshall on a yearly basis starting in 2010.

MAC schools should be playing the SBC and CUSA more to get that 5th home game. UAB is talking right now about easing up on the OOC schedule, perfect opportunity for a WMU to step up and sign a 1 for 1 series.
Adding Temple is a flop, They haven't play a game yet.

No 01-rivals.

I've seen them suited up, but have yet to see them play a game.03-lmfao

:soapbox:
The board is full of perennial naysayers. Can't even wait for Temple to play its first ever MAC game today to declare it a failure. I think in 2-3 years we may find it has been a plus overall, though bad for those teams who get wins taken from them by Temple.
I think TU's best option down the road would be to join the MAC for all sports, rather than go back to being independent in football. Adding both hoops programs would be a real positive for the MAC.
Good luck, Owls, in your first foray into the MAC wars!

Some how MAC has got to get neutral site games to work, There 7 NFL stadium in there foot print & endless possiablity. I always tought the MAC should set up the world's 2nd biggest cocktail party, why Akron-Kent, Toledo-BG, directional Mich schools could not set something & game count as home game for both schools. As for Temple being a flop, You guys ***** about how apathic MAC fans are, when ever Temple mentioned they come out of the woodwork. That good for the conf.

Exactly correct, dump the 1AA games, play rotating home and home with mid-major programs.
Today is the MAC-10 Network. look at all those games today.
Flop huh, Temple just fixed Buffalo for you.
