LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Ohio volleyball team has received its highest national ranking ever, as the Bobcats moved up 10 spots to No. 13 in the most recent CSTV/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll, released by AVCA headquarters Monday afternoon. The Bobcats' previous high in the poll was No. 14 in the final poll of 2005, following their run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen.
Ohio (4-1) made the jump from No. 23 in last week's poll by posting a 2-1 record in one of the strongest tournament fields of the year, the Diet Coke Classic, played in Minneapolis Minn. In the classic, the Bobcats defeated their highest ranked opponents in program history, topping previous No. 9-ranked Minnesota (2-2) and previous No. 12-ranked San Diego (2-3) in the first two matches. Ohio lost to No. 2 Stanford (4-0) in the final match of the tournament.
Minnesota dropped to No. 12 in this week's poll, after defeating San Diego and losing to No. 2 Stanford, while San Diego fell to 18th after going 0-3 in the tournament. Stanford swept the field to remain second in the rankings, receiving four first place votes.
Defending national champion Nebraska (4-0) remains No. 1 in the poll with 56 first place votes.
