For all of the ledge dwellers (which I am firmly a member... if not captain) and for the rest of you as well, here is a question to initiate conversation...

In regards to the SIU game, what will make you happier about the upcoming season. (What do you hope to see next week to alieviate your current apprehensions or fears?)

For me, I need to see....

1) A line that can open up a hole against a 1-aa defense

2) 6 balls thrown for more than 15 yards in the air and completed

3) a first quarter lead

4) DN to have a game QB rating over 100
1. NO turnovers, I repeat, NO Turnovers! NO interceptions. NO fumbles.
2. O line has to give our running backs a chance to make a play.
3. No more throwing the ball only 3 or 4 yards on 3rd and 10. We have to get more first downs.
4. I liked how the Defense was swarming to the ball and using some of that speed. More of that would be nice, and maybe an interception or a forced fumble.
5. DN needs to avoid keying in on one or two recievers. If he's going to be sacked, throw the ball away. Those 3rd and 15 type situations killed us.
6. Last of all, work on special teams coverage and stopping the run.

The ESPNU announcers were talking about this and said they were impressed with how how quickly the NIU defense got to the ball.
I will be happy when the receivers get open and catch the pass. I recollect that they were all blocking and that is certainly a product of the coach. Perhaps we need to think about recruiting some athletic receivers with the in line speed.

I will also be happy if Phil Brown is able to get into the game and get a few reps. I sure hope that he gets his grade issues under control.

And I would like to see the lines not get dominated.
An absolute blowout and complete dominance by the Huskies. Nothing short of that will do.
team that is properly COACHED & motivated by the coach.then the team will not be so tentative.
I deeply trust you must be kidding about doubting if NIU will be properly prepared & motivated by coaches.

I want to win PERIOD.
No delusions re: any blowout or statement win.

If I had any additional make me happy results - it's no injuries.

Take em one at a time and anyway you can get a W is my mantra this season.
They will all be adventures - except perhaps Wisky.

Right now this team is like a flat stock. We peaked awhile ago but keep finding bottoms. With everything that has happened over the last 5 years we still have not broken out. We need to not only win but we need statement wins. 2003 is yesterday's news and NIU is quickly being forgotten on the CFB landscape. The more Appalachian States that arise the deeper into the abyss NIU goes. JMO
1. Win (duh)
2. Defense stays sharp
3. Establish a running game
3a. If we establsh a run game, I think we will see a much better Dan Nicholson.
4. Get Spann and Cox on the field on offense.

You know 7 is right, these kind of people do crawl out of the rocks when there is a negative game. Hopefully you have the lifespan of one of those cicadias, you wreak doom and gloom for a few weeks and then silently become a shell of your former self.
just win
Bleeds with his shirt on!!!
More pics of hot chicks in NIU bikinis. Less pics of the chunky monkies 04-cheers
I just want someone to hold me and tell me everything is "going to be alright".

I know I was smashed, but didn't I do that for you at the SF game?
I would like to see the NIU offense find the endzone. They have not done that since they played EMU.

Great post. I'll say "DITTO" to that.

Furthermore, I hope this is not a close game. I'd like to come away with a 14+ point victory. To ask for "just a win" is silly. We need to show everyone we are capable of putting away a D-1aa opponent and get into a good offensive rythm.

Iowa was a little larger and a little faster on both sides of the ball last week. We'll have that advantage over SIU this week. I hope we beat them more convincingly that Iowa beat us last week. There were a lot of diappointed Iowa fans after last week. I hope I'm not feeling the same after this week.

If we lose to SIU - were done. No MAC West championship, no bowl game, no MACC. This is a must win game and we need to get our swagger back!

Losing to SIU would not be the end of the world. Regardless of what happens next week, NIU will still be 0-0 in MAC play. I remember a couple years ago when Toledo started out 0-2 (OOC), and ended up winning the MAC.

Keep things in perspective. The loss to Iowa will keep NIU from winning the national championship (Aw, shucks!). A loss to SIU will probably keep NIU out of an at large bowl, but if NIU can win the MAC games, they can still go bowling as the MAC champion.

I do not think they will lose to SIU anyway.
