Yes it was but I think a more interesting story will be the Pitt offense against EMU's defense. The Pitt offensive line averages over 300 pounds. Don't know much about the experience of the Pitt QB. I do know that our defense had trouble last year stopping the run. Another interesting thing to watch is our secondary with Garrison (who has started before) and Derrick Hunter (a real speedster) replacing Blake Smith and Bracey.
i agree, sounds like pitt should be able to run all over the eagle defense... look for the safeties to have a lot of tackles and the linebackers to be running down the field after the panther rb's.

Nice to see you optomistic iceman!..couple questions for you, have you seen our defense at all this past Spring, and at camp this Fall?, Hunt and Jones are very good at the Tackles dont expect many teams to run past them and we arguably have the best trio of LB`s in the MAC....You say it looks like Pitt should run all over the defense, what are you basing this on?...the guys from mdead?...I know you`ll look it up after reading this, but please tell us about Pitt`s RB`s....please dont bring the negativity from that other forum over here.....nothing anywhere has proven Pitt`s offense better than our defense!
negativity? soooo you are looking for false optimism? true fans should be comfortable in pointing out flaws in their favorite teams and i believe (from what i've read and saw last year) that the rush defense wont be as good as some expect. in the ohio, niu and navy- tho i know it's their specialty- games were horrible. pitt (a team i know a lot about because my brother attended the school and follows the team closely) lost its rb from last year but has a lot of talent back there. also as it was pointed out above, the panther's oline is very big. not sure you can say eastern has the best trio of lb's if one has only 32 career tackles. i understand the other two are very very good. hope they stay healthy...

i'm not rooting against emu, just think they will lose with the pitt wearing them down with the run.

False optomism???...how about any optomism at all from you?..your post shows you are biased for Pitt anyway..and by the way, Navy ran over everybody last year, does Pitt have a Garett Wolfe?.....I dont think so!...It also shows you know nothing about this years EMU team. From things you`ve read and from last year?...ok.....I assume you are talking about Andre Hatchett at LB...guess what?..he played behind a very good LB in Richardson and none of the LB`s were hurt last year, 32 tackles is good for him and he is an excellent LB....I`ll be damned if a single down hasnt been played yet or pass thrown or ball run and......Pitt is already running all over EMU.....keep up the "false" optomism and they`ll be 0-12 in your book.......tbc
i'm a realist who just doesnt think emu can compete with pitt... it's nothing to be ashamed of as an emu fan, of course a lower tiered mac school should lose to a middle of the road big east team.

to say hatchett is an excellent linebacker makes me laugh inside. it's great that he did well on special teams last season and filled in for richardson, but excellent? a little overstated dontcha think?

lastly i'm not biased towards pitt, as i'm an emu alum and my daughter attends he school right now. of course i root for the eagles.
Okay guys. First game discussion jitters? :)

Last year was last year. I think we all want to see our football team kick some ass this year after taking on the shins and I'm not saying that because the last two years have been the most heartbreaking close but no cigars (isn't that what Monica said 03-wink. Alot of hard work and effort and not as much as we hoped for to show for it.

Realistic-well we have a tough no doubt about it. And the pundits or experts as they call themselves have Pitt favored by a bunch.
I'm assuming those "experts" are looking at last year's record, our rush defense stats and of course our offense. Every "expert" has picked us last.

But having said that this year's team came in better conditioned and focused than they have in a long time and that included the freshmen.
And wow they are certainly are bigger, Hatchett put on over 20 and yes Warrior every one knows he was one of the top five rated high school players in Indiana his senior year and from a football factory.
No doubt about his talent.

We play the games one game at a time gents. And its on the field and not in the betting lines or by the experts.

It should be a good match and not the blow out the "experts" predict.

Go EMU!
ill admit, i was wrong. the rush defense seemed pretty good from what i heard (i listened from my home on wemu.org, gotta love the internet).

i was actually thinking of driving six hours north to the game but had to work late on friday and was too tired.
Sme old same old, lack of offense leaves the defence on the field to much.
What was the pay out to EMU for this game? I understand that Appalachian State received $400K for beating UM. I assume EMU received a lesser amount to play the Panthers.
It will be about the same
People are going crazy down here about the App State win... and giving me hell about it, though I've never been a UM fan. I think it'd be funny if Carr received a check for 400K in the mail on Tuesday, with "thanks for the win" written in the memo box!
