I am very happy to join the board. My name is Dustin and i am a huge UT fan. I am from the Michigan Border right outside of Toledo. My hole family is in love with UofM Football, I had to be different so i decided to become a UT fan at a young age. Since then it has been a bond that i can't explain.

Who do you guys feel would be the better leader at the QB postoin this year?(Really think about this question).

I am a big Clint Cochran fan, when this guys heathly he is flat out scary, Not opposed to Aaron Opelt but it's hard, he looked really bad last year, but did show promise. I guess we will know soon anyways.
Welcome aboard Dustin!

I lived in Temperance when I went to UT. I used to live off the corner of Dean and Jackman.

Anyways, I answered your question in your other post, but I'll answer it again.

I think either Opelt or Cochran will be excellent this year. I think Cochran has a better command of the offense at this point but that Opelt has better all around tools. I believe Opelt will get the start. Either way we have two experienced QBs. Opelt has similar athletic ability to Gradkowski.

The biggest problem last year was the O-Line. They were injured and the continuity just wasn't there. The defense was bad last year as well. I blame this mostly on the offense's inability to stay on the field and give the defense a break.

Never need to explain the attraction to UT sports. Its self explanatory. Now an attraction to Uof M sports-that needs some explaining.01-wingedeagle
It's a weird situation this year. We're fortunate to be in the rare position of having two 1st team caliber quarterbacks. However, there is a bit of a dilemma. On one hand we have Cochran who has been in the "system" going on 4 years, but with whom there may be some durability concerns. On the other hand we have Opelt who is very athletic, but is only in his second year in the system. That means less overall experience at the college level and fewer years in conditioning--although he has probably taken more "gameday" reps than Cochran.

I don't know who the coaches will give the nod as the starter. At this point it kind of sounds like Opelt, but I'm not sure it really matters. Regardless of who starts, if he falters or gets dinged up there is another guy who will be chomping at the bit to come in and should be fully capable of running the offense.

We have a challenging schedule ahead of us. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them get playing time.
everything will work out on September 1st!
I just want to win right now.

I can only trust that the coach will pick the right man.
Welcome!
welcome Dusty, I personally have no preference as of right now, as long as we throw the ball more than 5 yards down field, hopefully the o-line will be able to help make that possible
Hand that guy a beer! (if he's old enough, of course...)

I also want to welcome you to the board, Dusty. I live pretty close to you...in Lambertville. (I'm 43 and don't drink).

My family is full of OSU backers, but I love my Rockets !!! Got my season ticks and cannot wait until next Saturday

As far as this board is concerned, you'll get hooked !!

I review all the comments and entries every day and night. Very good interesting people. It'll become addicting. Have fun with it.
Welcome Dusty...

1. I think they were suggesting you have an Odules beer, which is almost alcohol free... even better, drug free???

2. Ft Laudy stole my thunder and said what I would have said, except... I don't think the defense last year was all that bad... i just think they... were missing something...

3. Have you ever watched the twilight zone? I'll give you $1000 for 1 year of your life... when, you wake up tomorrow, you will be 21... and so will I...

4. the two QB format has never worked... Cochran has been with the system for 4 years... but, he doesn't have the tools... throwing a freshman, just out of high school into a complex system is brutal, how many people did he play in front of in high school and the size of the stadiums?? but I saw moments of brilliance sp? but, having time to think of your mistakes, see where you could have been better and time to study the system... will give Olpelt the nod...
Welcome aboard the board. Stop by the Jambulance in Lot 10 and introduce yourself. Many of the board members hang out there before/after the game (BYOB - Bring Your Own Burgers/Brats).

Welcome to the boards Dustin! In answer to your question, I think Opelt will start but Cochran will see playing time during the first few games. By the third game I expect to have an established starter. I think it was 1999 we had a qb named Dan Cole who looked fantastic in practice but not nearly as good in the games and Pinkel put Bolden in four games into the season and he did fantastic. I'm not sure who will end up being the qb, but i don't expect it to take four games for Amstutz and Shannon to figure it out the way it did in 99.
