I doubt it. But you never can tell what the future holds. Can ya, Wilkie?
Possible... but if a split happens don't be suprised if the BE goes to 10.
Might take a very small $$$ per school hit.. but gives a bit more stability.03-idea
I believe the B10 will expand, and their 12 team will be Missouri, Nebraska, Rutgers or Syracuse. I hope Rutgers and Cuse says no, but I think Cuse is looking.
Syracuse has been looking since the Big East was formed. They were a prime mover in the killing of the all-sports conference JoePa envisioned.
What are the current penalties to a school that leaves the conference? Perhaps the Big East should work to make them even tougher?
$5 million exit fee.

-- Honstly, if RU leaves and there is a split, that as about as much chance as happening as anything else

-- Would be a rough day in Greenville, NC if things went down like that

It would probably mean the end of any chance for relevance by CUSA.

Sorry but I REALLY DOUBT that the school that is 90 east of Tampa will ever be in a conference with USF.

They will get in at the same time that WVU allows Marshall in.
I'd bet you're right there. Memphis or ECU - even Southern Miss - is another matter.
I think if syracuse goes to the big 10, than the odds are pretty good that this happens, might add Temple to get to 10. If rutgers goes to the big 10, than i don't think a split happens but the football league might look like your line up, just think the orange will want to stick around with the hoop school's. In that case, the 18 team big east probably happens. As long as the big 10,SEC, or ACC don't go to 14 teams, the big east will be fine.
Not Temple. The BEast didn't boot them just to invite them back a couple of years after the fact.
That 9 team conf for football is fine but i think you need to add some bball only school's, ie temple, umass, etc. UCONN hoops isn't gonna want to play southern miss or e.c.u.
I'm wondering why so many folks are big on ECU. Are you basing it on fan support or geography or what?

But we would like to play USM in football.

If USM is added, we're going to see an instant Texas-Tech like program form. They will be competitive.

No doubt the 200 or so ECU message board regulars would be very upset. The other 40,000+ that will show up to ECU football games this year will be surprisingly unconcerned. BCS access is undoubtedly important to every program but if you look at the above list of schools, we have played almost all of them on a regular basis. With the exception of UConn and Rutgers, we have had numerous games with each.

One thing has ALWAYS been true. The vast majority of ECU fans are almost completely indifferent to each of these schools. The fans do not consider them rivals. Most fans will look at Cincy and USF just like they look at Tulsa and UCF. The Marshall game had just as many people last year as WVU.

The ticket sales when we were in the "old" C-USA with UL, UC and USF were a lot lower than what they are now. It has nothing to do with our conference affiliation but our games with regional teams. That is what our fans (and every fanbase) want to see.

ECU would improve dramatically with BCS access and money but the folks in Greenville and Eastern NC that follow the Pirates would not even blink if we are not in the Big East. We have been passed over before and our donations and fan base HAS GROWN!!

I think it was pointed out that the Marshall game was your homecoming game and ECU had some other extra events going on. Either way, those were your 2 highest attended games of the season.

Your win totals were alot less as well when USF, Louisville and Cincy were in Cusa, so obviously some of the bandwagon fans jumped off when you were losing.

The folks in Greenville and ECU fans did more than blink an eye the last time ECU was passed over. But I agree that bcs access could improve ECU dramaticlly, but unlike you, I said could, since there are no absolute when it comes down to such things. (See Duke, Baylor and Temple for proof)
The Big East is the vehicle by which ECU could get into the BCS.....just so happens, there are some programs in the Big East that ECU has good relationships with, and also, some programs ECU fans would be excited to see come play in Greenville and on the road......

While I often times do agree with my Pirate buddy TopCard, I think he is wearing an attitude of "we don't need you" just in case things don't fall in our favor when/if expansion rolls around again.....I do not share his attitude. I have seen/heard/read Terry Holland and others at ECU enough to know that our #1 goal/priority at ECU right now is to get into a conference with all the BCS perks and opportunities that our neighbors to the west have, and that we will do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.....IMO, the notion that folks in Greenville "wouldn't blink an eye" if ECU was passed up for BCS inclusion (perhaps for good) is one that, quite frankly, is ludicrous considering where we sit as of today - and I'm glad we have folks in place who feel the exact same way as I do....
