Hey guys, I was reading the Akron photo update thread and I think the drawings look awesome. It is a big change from what I remember the plan being years ago.

Anyways, I thought you might like to see a photo of the progress we've made. I know some of you have been transplanted to Florida, so don't be a stranger and come out some time this season.

That's much better then any MAC stadium (the Glass Bowl probably comes closest). It's unfortunate that the MAC schools have such a hard time coming up with funding for facilities. I'm sure every team in the MAC would love to have a stadium like that, but no teams have a large enough fan base to fill it on a regular basis or enough funding to build (or expand to) something like that. UCF fans should consider themselves lucky to be able to witness their university grow so quickly to to be able to watch their team in a facility like that.
I agree that the stadium is very impressive. It will be a great addition to your campus. What is the final cost of the project? I thought the price was very similiar to Akron's stadium. Our stadium is supposed to be in the $54M range.

UCF has a larger enrollment than Michigan or Ohio State. It has about 3,000 more students than Penn State and about 3,000 less than University of Texas. It has the sixth largest enrollment in the US.
that stadium looks to be 1/2 of the U. of Michigan's Big House.

Or, UCF's mid-size House.

I'll predict that this stadium, like UofMs, gets expanded in the decades ahead.

Yep, that's about the right price.

One thing I do like about Akron's photos are the facade on the exterior. I hope that UCF plans on doing something like that if they expand.
The largest schools are:
Enrollments
IF the Big East loses a school (e.g., 'Cuse, Pitt, or RUT) to the Big Ten, they'd be CRAZY NOT to take UCF.

I'd guess UCF is a top 10 ranking in FB from being the next Florida State.

They have the students, academics, etc. and now the FB stadium needed to go big time.

and unlike the Herd, I can speak no ill of this school who left us for greener pastures (although I'm not sure how much greener C-USA is).
just a little segway comment:

Aren't all of the MAC schools north of the Mason-Dixon line? (yes)

Aren't all of the C-USA schools SOUTH of the Mason-Dixson line (yes, I think).

IF the MAC can get #14, say a school like Army, UMass, etc. wouldn't that reinforce the notion that the MAC is a Midwest/Northeast type conference while C-USA is a South/Southeast/Southwest conference?

Doesn't that also explain why Marshall left?

Doesn't it also suggest if Army was ever interested in FB only membership, they'd feel more comfortable with Temple, UB, MIA, etc. then Marshall, SMU, etc.
I believe the facade expansion will be next. Probably similar to what FSU did (they used to have no facade whatsoever).

I'd expect the 65K expansion in 10 years.
very impressive stadium!

The stadium is already looking good, but will look much better once they make a facade expansion. The new basketball arena is also very nice, I like it better than the football stadium.

Capacity is 45,000. And yea, the village is amazing. Definitly getting us looked at by big recruits who in the past may not have. My favorite part is the "downtown" feel of the village, with the restaraunts, pubs, and shops going in.
This stadium looks great - very similar to UConn's I wish that the MAC would have invited UCF sooner so that Culpepper could be considered a "MAC alum." Best of luck luck to the Golden Knights this season, especially in the home opener against Texas.

Yeah well the MAC has that covered already with Ben R., Chad P., Byron L., and a host of others. But yeah you can't have enough I guess.

Strangely enough, these numbers are likely to start declining in coming years. Although the population of FL has increased immensely in the last few decades, the price of homes and corresponding property taxes have recently skyrocketed. And due to the spate of hurricanes in 04-05, property insurance is becoming unaffordable, if you can even get it. Families with kids are struggling to make ends meet and have been steadily migrating north to GA, TN, NC, SC, etc. so K-12 enrollments are actually declining already and thus there will be less college kids beginning...soon. The state U.'s could maintain their size if they lower their admission standards substantially but I doubt they will want to do that. A lot of baby boomers will start retiring soon and some will move to FL (but not in droves) so FL will become more and more of an older-folks place than it even has been in the past.

Florida was attractive for low real estate prices and affordability about 10 years ago.

A lot of people are moving out of Florida. My mom did it just last year, and I left 6 years ago because I was tired of the overcrowding.

I don't know that I could predict with a certainty what will happen to the state in the next ten years though.

You have to consider exactly which portion of the population is leaving the state.

Are we losing our best and brightest or just the portion which was treading water?
