the idea that kids can't play outside safely anymore is one of perception. the murder, kidnapping, rape statistics are lower now than they were a generation ago. we just see more hype about horrible cases on TV. the biggest difference is cars and traffic as it's gotten much less safe for kids to get around on their own, ride their bikes, etc... because the roads are more hazardous and more kids live in subdivisions or areas that are designed more for car travel instead of bikes, pedestrians ...
a lot of parents, like myself, who grew up spending a lot of time in the streets or on our own, tend to be more protective of our kids, even though we feel our childhood built a lot of self-reliance into our character.
i've been wondering what trent was up to. he was one of the mac's greatest players ever. had a anti-climactic end to his 3 year career with some injuries and missing the ncaas the last year, but he was big fun to watch back in the day.
