Maybe Gee will recommend his friend Nancy for the Vandy job.

I can't believe they brought him back. I thought most of the alumni hated that guy.
PS - Nancy would be a great fit at Vandy!

what the hell were they thinking?
I've always heard he was well liked around campus. He kept his nose out of athletics, and helped raise their national profile. The OSU guy here in my office liked the hire.
Maybe he'll dissolve OSU's athletic department.

O,
Great idea. "I like where your head's at"
Trust me Gee is worse than Nancy. This is hilarious that they hired that guy. He is an absolute anti-sports clown.

I dont know what you are talking about, but this guy is a true nut-job. He was so anti-sports at Vanderbilt it was unbelievable, wanted to get rid of the athletic department, funding for sports, etc...
I thought I read a few months ago in the Wall Street Journal that Gee's wife loved 4:20 much to the dismay of the Board of Trustees.

It was an article on how University Presidents spend money like crazy on parties and upgrading their paid housing.

At Vandy he didn't want school money going to fund the athletic department. At OSU he won't have to worry about that. The athletic department pays back into the school at the end of the year. He has been at OSU before, he knows he can't mess with athletics, especially football.

Like I said, people I work with (big OSU fans) were happy with him, they were also worried about getting Nancy. They knew him before, and know he won't be messing with the athletics while he is there.

I remember his talk about abolishing the athletic departments and rolling them into the universities as a general education program with normal university chains of command. Think he went so far as to eliminate the AD position at Vandy? I might be mistaken. Gruehls would probably know the answer to that.

I definitely recall lots of folks in scarlet and grey being uber-happy when he took his show on the road. Enjoy, Bucky.
I've got about five good friends who are big OSU boosters and Gee was the punchline to about half their jokes. In fact, all of their ripping on Nancy went back to the fact that she was a Gee protege. There are gonna be a lot of unhappy OSU campers if this is true. Of course maybe he learned his lesson to stay out of OSU sports and concentrate on other aspects of the university - wouldn't that have been a nice approach for someone else to have taken.
We have a lot of OSU folks in my office. Lots of folks are worried about how much the "renegade factor" plays into the decision to bring this guy back. Any objective person understands that there needs to be some serious cultural changes in how OSU athletics does bidness despite how much $$ it brings in. In the years since he left for Vandy, OSU has made nearly as many headlines related to off court issues and shennanigans as they have for on field success. And this is coming from a guy who was raised a Buckeye fan long before he discovered Jelly Jones. 03-wink

This is all true. Maybe he is the best man for the job, because their athletic department is an absolute mess and has been for years now.
As with most things in life, it boils down to $$$. The guy brings in donations, grants, etc. probably like no other University President in the country. As a result, he lives a rather opulent lifestyle, e.g. luxurious home renovations, on the University's dime.
