Saw a piece on ESPN where they discussed the greatest radio calls in the history of sports.
Jack Fleming's call of the Immaculate Reception and Ned Jarrett calling Dale Jarrett's win in the '93 Daytona 500 were suspiciously absent, but, then again, it's ESPN.
Still- I started thinking about the greatest calls in the history of ETSU sports on the radio and I came up with these two-
1- Just last year when Jay called Courtney Pigram's game winning shot against Chattanooga. "AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS- YOU SHOULD!"
In that instant, the title of "Who is ETSU's biggest star" officially went from Brad Nuckles to Courtney.
2- The most pub I can ever remember an ETSU announcer getting was when Chip Kessler called the winning touchdown of the Bucs' late-season 28-23 win at Chattanooga in '96.
Somebody's gotta help me with the names here- but that was a real tough game for the Bucs with "upset" written all over it. Bucs don't win that they may not make the playoffs.
Closing minutes of the game Greg Ryan hits his receiver inside the 10 yard line. The receiver does a balancing act to get to the end zone if I recall for the winning touchdown.
Kessler's description of the run capitalized by "TOUCHDOWN ETSU!" was simple- but it was the call of the score that put ETSU into the playoffs and found its way on to the televison sports reports.
AND NOBODY SAY THAT CHUCK JONES BEGINNING EVERY SENTENCE WITH "FOOTBALL FANS" WAS THE GREATEST CALL EVER!
