Mark Fox was given a contract extention that will keep him at Nevada at least through 2014. The contract pays a base salary of $400,000 with bonuses for performance and cost of living raises. The buyout clause is $250,000.

Fox has publicly stated that he is very happy coaching at Nevada. He's been mentioned for several other coaching positions, but has never so much interviewed for any other jobs. In fact when he was one of the leading candidates for the Kansas State job, he was quoted as saying something like "No way in hell I'm moving to Manhatten, Kansas". Fox's wife is also an associate athletic director at the university, which is even more of an insurance policy.

Glad to see there are still some coaches out there committed to a single program and won't disappear for higher ground the second someone starts throwing around $$$.

Good news for Nevada! 04-cheers

Bad news for WAC refs! 04-chairshot
Six Pack probably already knows, but the actual compensation is $100k per year more than that, but it's not considered part of the salary. For '07 I think he'll get about $525k plus his NCAA Tourney ($25k) and Coach of the Year ($5k) bonuses so $555k plus any outside income from a shoe contract, speaking engagements or youth basketball camp. It may not be enough to make him reject the Pac10 or the right Big12 school, but outside of that, he'll hopefully stick around for a while. This year is going to be important. If he makes the NCAA tourney with this young team, the big names will really start giving him a look.
Nice. I think Fox is a good coach. He is very passionate about the game. He took it too far a couple times last year,05-nono but I expect he'll be better this year. Its good to keep the continuity of the good coaches in the WAC.

Never ever say this, even if it might be true. It's just bad luck! Coaches have bolted right after signing contract extensions before, it's not that uncommon....

Don't we know it. That's what Trent Johnson did. If the Pack does very well this year coach Fox will be a very hot commodity. If the Pack misses the NCAA tourney (I'd put the odds of getting there at no better than 50-50) I think he'll be around for at least another year. He has to be salivating at the chance of coaching Babbit and some of the other youngsters and recruits coming up. I truly believe the Pack is taking a small step back this coming year but will then take dramatic steps forward in the following 3 years. The best Pack teams of this decade are still to come.
