Question for everyone, please answer. I was talking to the Athletic Department and they mentioned the idea of using student ID's for the points system and then they would supply the scanner. A much cheaper route, but then again not nearly as cool. What do you think of the idea? Please vote.

Also, guys we REALLY need to get together PLEASEEEE... We have a lot to take care of. Thanks Eric for getting the website together.

Also thanks to those of you who sent the numerous emails that I have received.. There are few of you but I really appreciate them. I plan on getting back to all of you asap, but I have been pretty swamped in work and graduation/birthday stuff at the moment with all of my friends and my girlfriend.
Please consider the cost factor when voting.

That sounds good to me, but are they going to let us put our software on it so we can have statistics and points automatically updated to our website? Is the scanner solely for Red Riot use only or when we need it will the Athletic Department tell us they don't have it because someone else is using it?
Being in school, I have to carry around enough ****. I don't need anything else to carry around. I always have to have my NIUOne Card, so this will work better.

even if its just something on your key chain?

One of the ideas behind getting dog tags is that it would remind people about basketball
How do the students benefit from gaining points? In other words, what do the points get them?

It's in development, but right now it would just be like a competitive fun thing to get your name at the top of the list I suppose. We are trying to get free burritos at certain point breaks. Any other ideas?

Something like "tickets to an NIU road game" or "bowl game tickets" for the top 4 or 5 in points or something would be cool if you could somehow work that out.

Keep me updated on this

Bowl game tickets would be irrelevant because the final top 4 or 5 in point totals would not be determined until after March when college football is well over.

One of the biggest things the points system is for is to create an atmosphere of competition among Red Riot members. So Red Riot #1 can brag that he has more points than Red Riot #7. Stuff like that.

Another reason for the point system was to create a rewards system. After all, NIU students probably won't show up to games unless they have some sort of incentive to show up.

I've recommended that we shouldn't start taking Red Riot attendance (via the scanners) until halftime. That way we can make people show up and stay for at least half of the games. If we took attendance at the beginning then people could just show up, get scanned, and leave right away. Plus, it takes up some of that free time during the half where people might possibly just leave but by the time they get scanned the 2nd half will be starting back up so they will want to stay.
I applaud your effort guys but let's be honest... guys aren't going to brag about how many points there are. Points won't keep a guy from choosing to go to the game over staying in. Help me out fellow Huskie students.. maybe I'm wrong here.

It's been said over and over but the only thing that will get the students to the game is a winning team.

Now.. rewarding people who come to the games often with things such as free burritos etc is a good idea.. I just wouldn't expect it to draw in more people.

We can't sit around and do nothing like the Athletic Department has. Whether people brag about their points or not, i don't care. But it is a competition. Some people like to see their names at the top of things, some don't care. Whatever. The rewards have to be something more practical than away game tickets though. Us paying for something that won't get used is a waste of money. I doubt anyone wants to pay for their travel expenses to use their away game tickets. And like typical NIU students, they would come up with an excuse for why they can't go to an away game.

Sorry for not elaborating more but when I said away game tickets I meant Huskie Football for the following year. Like the main event road game of the year (@ Alabama)

To you and I that would be something we would both want. For most NIU students i don't think such tickets would be used. Something like an autographed jersey by your favorite NIU player (regardless of sport) seems more practical.

You bring up a good point. An autographed jersey would be a great idea.. something I hadn't thought of.
