Quote:But I really hope we win just to shut some of them up.

Don't count on it meat.

Also have to love how a thread on their football board about football turns into 2 pages of them bashing our basketball team. I guess that makes sense. I can clearly see how big football is down south.
We're going to absolutely work them....we will win by 20+, i guarantee it. Everyone will be so jacked following the opening of the AAPC and the home opener at night, packed house..plus coming off a win over iowa :)
I hope that I am worng but I fear that we could stuggle to reach .500 this season. We will be beasts in 2008 though as long as we do not have whole sale coaching changes.
notice I had visited Saluki board earlier last month and posted some comments.

I have been reading it for awhile.

The SIU dawgs there aren't much different than the NIU dawgs here.
Some comments are rightfully proud of their team while others make bold and sometimes foolish comments - just like ones here.

I don't think it's accurate nor wise to pigeonhole fans from either SIU or NIU all into one category.

Plenty of NIU fans have questioned the strength of MAC football here.
Several here have made outrageous predictions re: Wolfe before the Poinsettia Bowl.

The NIU commentary is all over the place and certainly NOT represented by a single voice.

The outcome of the NIU-SIU game may be a key predictor of just how well the season is likely to go and how much of the rebuilding publicity beforehand was either on target or overplayed.

I do get a chuckle when Novak sez on the Caravan Tour wryly suggesting that maybe NIU should just fax in an L each week rather than play and players need not show for preseason camp either.
even if we're bad (which i don't think we will be) we should still beat them. to lose to SIU (in football)would just be plain embarrassing.
It may just be me, but what has SIU done besides beat up on inferior 1-AA teams and not win any 1-AA titles? They beat one BCS team, a bottom of the barrel Big Ten program. So what, winning a BCS game once every decade is suppose to impress me? We've beaten four BCS teams in the last four years. Probably more BCS teams than they've beaten in four decades.
honestly i hope NIU beats SIU but something tells me its gonna be a close one again and anyone could win, this seems to much like a game that NIU could be overlooking and be in for a big disappointment especially after the yordon center is opened
YEA it's a huskie tale from a different era but didn't most all NIU fans on defunct boards say same thing before losing TWICE at HOME to WIU years ago?

The last time we played them Haldi, Hurd, and Powers were all out and A.J. Hairrs was our starting running back.

If we lose Nicholson, Britt, and Simon before the SIU game, then they could win.

If I recall correctly, NIU was winning the game handily, dominating both sides of the ball throughout most of the game....NIU didn't score a ton of points despite what appeared to be lopsided play in favor of the Huskies and when you let teams hang around......SIU racked up a ton of points in a hurry late in the game and came within a Sam Hurd type play late in the game of pulling off the upset.

I give SIU credit... they have quality athletic teams and will most certainly come in to DeKalb with a chip on there shoulder ready to play and hoping for an upset.

I expect a tough game. SIU does not equal Indiana State.
not necessarily a good yardstick to compare two teams from years ago with different players to whatever personel both NIU and SIU will bring to the field the second game of the season following a physical game for NIU with a quality BT opponent vs SIU playing QUINCY .

However - Last matchup was also second game following tuff and narrow NIU opening loss at overated Maryland vs SIU beating SouthEast Missouri State.

Should Nicholson alone be unavailable, held out or struggle, it could get ugly fast vs SIU. ...and never exclude potential for weather to impact play either.

Very hot & humid COULD favor NIU with larger roster and a bit more depth .... while rain or winds make the game more an equal opportunity for big mistakes....a phenomenal SIU turnout could embolden the Salukis to play at their highest level....lots of variables in play which makes each game unique unto itself.....
I just don't see SIU being able to matchup athletically on either side of the ball with us.

I know SIU does not equal Indiana State, and I'm not expecting to go up 48-0. However unless some injuries occur, I will be dissapointed if we win by less then 17.
With all due respect to SIU...their trash talking does not even justify a response on a div-1a board. I wish them luck in the Midwest Gateway conference or whatever its called.

last i remember AJ was a star running back until he got hurt and people were looking at him once like they do or did now with G Wolfe so i dont think AJ as a running back is a bad thing also might i add hes playing in NFL Europe and may have a chance at the NFL one day so i wouldnt put AJ down to much
Looks like the SIU fans found NIU's scheduled layup game...lol

He was our 2nd best running back, at best.
wow, a real thread... confused

anyways.. I have a great deal of respect for SIU. These days the difference is becoming less noticeable between mid major 1A teams and top 1-AA. I still think that we are definitely better, and I still think that we will win, but I have a great deal of respect for SIU. They do a good job with their athletics.

AJ looked real good when he was playing in garbage time as Burner Turners backup. The next year, everyone had high expectations, but i'd hardly say that he was a star as a starter. He never even got a chance to get to that level as he just got injured and Wolfe took over and never looked back.

That statement is really unfair to AJ. Who knows what he could have done had he not been hurt all the time. Like you thought Wolfe would come in and be a star when AJ was starting? Yeah right.
