With Wolfe and Free gone, who is going to be the GUY for us this? When people think NIU, who are they going to think?

English?
Britt?
Nicholson?
McCarthy?
Clanton?

Who is going to be the face of the team so to speak this year?
English, i have a feeling the D is gonna carry this team this year for some reason
If the D is gonna carry most of the load and provide Ws, it's English. ( a good student athlete name for writers/media to work with too ... & what IS his major?)

If the O surprises me - maybe Britt and Dan will provide the spark....lord knows ....mr electricity he gone.

That would seem the obvious choice as long as his knee is healthy.

If this team is going to win a title this year, it needs big years from English (as you said) and as cybes said Britt and Dan will need to have big years.
justin anderson
I guess I would have to say Dan Nicholson because he has to play well for the team to win this year.
English, Rusch, Brown and one db on Defense
Britt, TE(both catching and blocking) and Skatrud and Brost
Football is a team sport
NIU is historically a running team. Dan will be the most visible/obvious face coming into the season. It would not surprise me if he is featured on the cover of the opening day NIU program. After about 4-5 games, our running game will settle in and there will be a clear "leader" on our running attack that will get press as NIU's next 1000 yard rusher to keep the streak alive.
I think English will be the face of next years team depending on his injury. Do we even know any of the injury/surgery information? This could tell a lot. With something like a meniscus tear I can see no drop off in production. With a ligament tear, there are a lot more question marks.

TJ Griffin will be brought out of moth balls and rock the football world by winning the heisman.

HA!

I often wonder what happened to him though, at one point he was targeted to be an impact player.
I like the Justin Anderson nomination- but he's more a guy who can break out and become the "face" of NIU football (same with Nicholson). It really is going to be English and the defensive unit as a whole that will be the public identity of the team going into the year.

Of course public "faces" are just that- for the public.
Clanton.
I think what 7 meant with this question is what will the average and unbiased onlooker think of when an NIU football conversation comes up? In order for this to be a defensive player, it has to be an absolute beast (ie. brian urlacher for the Bears)..i realize larry english is a monster, but im not sure if a random 17 year old kid who non-chalantly follows college sports will go "yea, NIU...that larry english is a monster." I think it is more likely to be an offensive player. Therefore, I picked Justin Anderson because i am quite sure he will be "the guy" for this offense...

So, do you think he will have the starting job won at the beginning of the season? Right now is seems Clanton has the starting position. Possibly just b/c he is 1 year older, but nontheless Anderson did not yet win over the coaches as the outright starter. If you are solely going on spring game performance......I would agree Anderson performed better.
i think they will split carries at first, but anderson will eventually earn the bulk of the carries because of big plays and just showing his ability to move the chains.
Clanton is more of a home run hitter then Anderson. They are different backs. I think Anderson may have a better all-around game, but Clanton is more of a G.Wolfe then Anderson.

They should both get carriers.

Yep, exactly what I was asking.

Not to be a homer here, but I think it will be Britt. He has the talent to do it, as long as his hands are improved.

I just don't see a running back being it because I think Clanton and Anderson will both see plenty of carriers.
