It was a segment on sports talk shows.

While- yes- you knew it was by ESPN (why else would they feature Jim Caraville's sports talk show?)- one of their panelists mentioned something that REALLY hits home in Johnson City.

In the days of sports yore, coaches like John McGraw and Knute Rockne would often become untouchable by cozying up and befriending the sportswriters.

They said now the technique is still being done- but primarily with sports talk show hosts.

Now think about this folks.

Isn't that what is going on here?

ETSU is going to have their sportscasts shuttled around on different radio stations next year primarily because Bill Meade and George Pitts are good friends. I mean, King ahead of ETSU? Please!

I've always said ETSU was the team of the Tri-Cities, but if King has ambitions of going Division I someday the Bucs wouldn't be the team of Bristol anymore. More King exposure will only help this.

And now I'm listening to the morning sports talk shows. And I have learned now that every coach here has gone golfing with every sports anchor, every talk show host, and even the ETSU flak is now TRAVELING to Williamsburg with the beat writer to play golf.

But the one guy who doesn't sell out? He's on a message board.

What is even more distressing is not the price they sell out for.

Tee time.
