I want to give some credit to the Johnson City Press for their coverage of the NCAA Golf Championships.

First of all, they sent Joe Avento to Williamsburg yesterday. That might not sound like much to you but I know for a newspaper that won't even send a writer to Kingsport or Bristol when the Johnson City Cardinals play there I applaud that.

Avento also wrote a fine article. So many times when you're dealing with 18 holes and five players it's difficult to figure out what is going on. A lot of times you just wait in the clubhouse and wait for the guys to come in and report their scores.

Avento had descriptions of the Bucs play on Friday, from Rhys Davies bad putts to a time on the fourth hole where he actually hit a sprinkler head with a shot.

It sounded like Avento was right there- in the right place at the right time. If he wasn't- his writing made it seem like he was.

Joe Avento covering a golf event? Surely not. I wonder who covered his round?

How many other members of the media from the Tri-Cities physically WENT to Williamsburg, to cover a golf tournament, at a nice golf course? Is this the same Joe Avento that went to IRELAND on vacation to play golf, and did stories in the press about it? Is this the same Joe Avento that no matter the ETSU golfing event, always seems to be there? I mean I don't have an issue with getting all you can get while you can get it, in fact I encourage it, but don't praise him for being noble and covering a golf event. I'm sure him playing atleast 18 ON THAT COURSE was involved at some point.

I don't have a problem with him enjoying the scenery while he's there.

But are you insinuating that he paid his own way for the trip?
