Love him or hate him, Matta can recruit. He already has 5 verballed for '08 that may be as good as Oden & Co.

Let's face it a verbal from a high school freshman isn't worth a whole lot right now. Not binding, doesn't mean much, teams will still pursue these kids and in the event one of them blows a knee out in the next 3 years I highly doubt these NCAA coaches honor the scholarship. So again, announcing a 2010 verbal in 2007 is absolutely ridiculous.

Regarding the original question, it seems unlikely that a player would give a verbal to a MAC school at such a young age. I would think most would prefer to wait it out and see if they could score a major conference scholarship before deciding on a MAC school.

Just because they give their verbal to a MAC school now doesn't mean they can't change it to another school (high-major) later.

Ohio had Pg William Thomas verbal, but then he signed with Thuggins & Company at WV. He could have started day 1 at Ohio. Instead WV fans are mad because they passed on some frontline players and took a kid who will sit on the bench at WV for a couple of years.
